Flores already has an agreement in place to return as the Vikings DC if he doesn't a HC job.

This. Shula fits the previous hiring patterns in some ways. Hire promising coordinator in his 30s, keep him for 15 or 20 years.
Bring the SF passing guru in with him, Scheelhaase….although after one bad game, I am sure the yinzer brigade will start calling him ****house.

Search took 3 weeks last time. Not that it means anything for this search. Just a little piece of nostalgia.

I wonder how different the last 19 years would have looked had they went with Whiz. Better, worse, same.

I don’t think I knew Tomlin ever coached for the Bengals.

I didn't read all the posts between your post and this response, but I would be in favor of Shula, and would hope that he brings Scheelhaase (sp?) with him as the OC. He's also likely bring someone from his defensive staff as the DC. It would at least bring some continuity to the start of what will be a very heavily scrutinized new era of Steelers football.

I agree with you. A little long in the tooth for what the Steelers have been doing. Pittsburgh native thing probably has alot to do with it .

My point was how far did the Packers or Cowboys go WITH him in these latter years.

They made the NFCC in 2016. In 2017 Rodgers was out most of the season with a should surgery. In 2018 Rodgers had a knee injury, and McCarthy was fired.
In Dallas, they were 12-5 and won the division 2 times between 2021 and 2023. In 2024 they lost Dak Prescott to hamstring surgery, and McCarthy was fired.

I don’t think they’ll go MM, but if they did it’s not as horrific as our first reactions would indicate. He’s offensively minded and would likely get the QB position under control which is our huge weakness. Heard somewhere that he likes Will Howard and he has the has experience to select good coordinators . He’s going to get us into contention right away and his length of service will be much shorter. Yay!

I think he’s down a ways on their list but it may not be as bad as we think.
    Devil’s advocate…

yes - it's close to an incestuous marriage!

Rooney has NO IDEA how to hire for this role

I HOPE he leaves it Khan and Weidl

    i have my doubts

Weaver is having a second interview. He did do a good job with a not so good roster.

That's because he never coached for the Bengals that's an error in the paper, I think he coached at the University of Cincinnati with Jesse Minter's dad that's what I heard on a podcast.
