I posted this in another thread, but here is a very long story from a couple years ago, that may explain why Mike McCarthy may just want to come back home to the City of Pittsburgh and work with the Rooney family as OC.

    Did he have a virtual

Some sites suggest it wasn’t needed because they were familiar with him

Others say he is coming in for a second interview

    it doesn’t matter

The most recent I saw was the first meeting was virtual and now they’ve scheduled an in person meeting. I haven’t read about any of the other virtual meetings progressing to round two.

Most of those others are still in the playoffs? Hard to really know what they are doing I guess.

I think if we start having 2nd in person interviews before the Super Bowl....they arent waiting and have their guy they want.

Gerry Dulac corrected his earlier post on X that described Flores as having a “second interview,” saying…

Clarification: Mike McCarthy and Brian Flores will meet in person with the Steelers this week. Virtual interviews not needed because the team already has familiarity with each candidate.

According to SI, teams can interview coaches from NFC/AFC Championship teams during the Super Bowl bye week for coaching openings, either in person or virtually. If not, they must wait until after their season officially ends.

I prefer the new head coach to choose his assistants. In rare occasions like when Mike Tomlin got the job where he had Arians and LeBeau, that would be an exception with an already all time team roster.

Steelers currently have no talent on this team that are still in their primes and are all timers with great assistants.

If it played out to my thinking, to who ever they were offering the HC role to, I know they would ask if.

also I see McCarthy only being around for maybe 4 years. and then him calling it done.

Two guys the Steelers interviewed first just extended the waiting period by another week.

If Shula and Scheelhaase are the guys the Steelers covet the most, do they wait while other candidates they also like get hired or make an offer for one of them like Flores?

I think you wait for the ones you want the most and just make them an offer they cant refuse to ensure you get one of them.
