Among those choice who is possible, who would be your choice for the starting QB in 2026?

I think Rodgers is gone for sure,so I will not put Rodgers on this poll

I chose Will Howard. We know what Mason is. Rather they not pay for Mac or Malik.

See what Will has good or bad and then look to 2027.

Howard. Keep your powder dry for a (hopefully) better class in 2027. In the meantime, maybe Howard is the dude?

I think I would draft a QB with potentially high upside in the mid rounds, like Allar, and let Howard and the new QB battle for the position.

    If a leader emerges, great!

If they both flop, you hopefully get an early pick in 2027.

Counting on Howard would be very foolish

    Wasting a season is foolish

The Steelers don’t do things that foolish

Mason was signed to be a number 2

The Steelers will find a vet who can start the season at least and then if a draft choice or Howard steps up then great

Anybody who votes for the draft no matter what should be publicly abused

They just wasted 10 seasons at least though...

We can't continue with these 1-year rental washed up QBs. I think that streak ends with the new HC. I don't think Rudolph is the answer as a #1, but he is a solid BU. Is it 6 or 7 seasons now we have had a different starting QB on opening day. Talk about wasting seasons, what would you call Trubisky, Pickett, Wilson, and Fields??? Wasting seasons? We've wasted a decade or more. Yes, Steelers do foolish things all the time. Remember signing Vick? Trading Pickens??

Reaching for a QB in the first is fool hearty at best. We have already danced that dance. I would look around for a younger QB with a bit of experience, but not panic if none is there nor would I break the bank on one.

The Steelers know best on Will Howard right now and I'm sure the next HC will have a say. Regardless the kid deserves his shot to win the job in the preseason. Chucky has nothing but praise for him and he knows QBs more than anyone on this board.

    Kirk Cousins

The Falcons redid his contract this year, and they will be forced to cut him before his now $67.9 million roster guarantee hits March 13. If Cousins is cut by the Falcons you will have another Russell Wilson situation where Cousins will be playing for league Minimum as the Flacons will be picking up the rest of his contract.

As part of the restructure, there is now a guarantee in the amount of $67.9 million for the 2027 season that vests March 13. Given the high unlikelihood that the Falcons or any team that would acquire Cousins via a trade before March 13 would want to be on the hook for that $67.9 million, a decision on Cousins' future could come before that date.

Let's try it the old fashion way, and see who can win the starting job in training camp and pre season.

Howard or Willis seem like the best options right now. Draft is light on QBs. So is FA. I don't see any backups that seem trade worthy.

Howard. He has all the tools, maybe he’ll be the exception and not the rule for a late rd pick.

In addition to him, especially if we bring in one of these QB whisperers. Pursue Willis and draft Allar. He should be there in the 2nd and maybe even the 3rd which would be ideal with 3 picks in that round.

See if one of them sticks.

Or forgo all that and make a move for Mac Jones. He improved a lot at San Fran but again, only if we get one of these coaches that excels at getting the most out of QBs.

I could see this happening. Cousins gives you a floor for 2026 and you’re not committing anything long term.

He’d be a good mentor for Howard, who would hopefully get his chance to play at some point

He was tremendous filling in for all the games Purdy missed. Like you said if we get an excellent offensive HC or OC then Jones could be the guy but I think he is still under contract with San Francisco.

True the floor with Cousins is probably 8-9 and the ceiling 10-7.

Probably. But there is no path to a franchise QB this offseason so they have to do something.

I can’t see a new HC wanting to stake their first season on Howard

I like this plan. Howard or some rookie QB may not be the best passer, but they have young legs. We need youth, which does mean growing pains, but that is necessary.

They definitely shouldn't trade away all their draft capital for a QB this year nor sign a pricey Free Agent. There isn't a single Free Agent QB worth bringing here.

I want change!! we demand change!!!

But let’s roll with the same plan as always at the most critical position in professional sports.

    Seriously?

I think Allar in a middle round might make sense. I think dude is going to be a catastrophe as a pro but I’d still rather watch that the Kirk Cousins. Sheesh.

Did you watch the last 2 seasons of Quarterback with Kirk Cousins?

You could not have asked for a better attitude on a guy that went from a high of signing a $180 million contract, to a low of getting benched mid season.

    https://thesteelersfans.com/forums/...-quarterback-just-dropped.34893/#post-1415787

Season 2. Post on MY thoughts on watching the upcoming 2024 season.
The Franchise QBs of the 2024 season that they will follow are Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Kirk Cousins.

I have to admit the story I am wanting to see the most is going to be Kirk Cousins. Signing a $180 million contract and then your teams goes behind your back and drafts a QB in the first round. Finally, leading to Cousin's ultimate benching at the end of the year. This could be a fun story to watch knowing what we know about how the 2024 season turned out for Kirk Cousins.
