They probably want to wrap this whole thing up within a couple weeks. Everything needs to be in place for the NFL combine which starts February 23.

You need the head coach and a full staff of coordinators, position coaches, and assistants on board and ready to go. They need to discuss what the new structure of the coaching and organization is going to be. They may add new positions to modernize the process of operating a high-level NFL organization. There have to be discussions about personnel, the areas of the team that need help, the players they want to keep, the players that are potential trade candidates, the types of players in the draft that best fit the systems they are going to play in, and a million other things that need to be nailed down and prepared for so that they can put themselves in the best position to start the process of building a champion.

I voted for the battleship commander.

Kubiak is right there for me as well. Those are my top two choices at this moment.

could the guy who called Shula a battleship commander be the same guy who called Bradshaw a field general?

Want an interview with the battleship commander sooner rather than later.

It’s an unfair bias but I kinda don’t want Shula since I remember what a disaster Mike Shula was as a coach. Showing my age with that.

They won’t but I would go Curt Cignetti. Fits and be a Steeler coach for years to come.

If we go with a defensive minded coach, I’d like to see Randle-El as OC. We currently have two young WRs (CAIII and Wilson). We will also draft one more in the early rounds. These guys need to be coached up and ARE is just the guy to do it

Not every college coach is interested in coaching in the NFL.

    This.

Chuck Noll came from a winning background.

Bill Cowher came from a winning background.

Hell, even Mike Tomlin came from a winning background.

I suspect the next HC will also come from the same Ethos.

I'm watching all the interview of the candidates... a lot of guys seem really young. They may be smart, but I don't know if they could command a locker room.

Honestly the guy I like so far is Anthony Weaver... kind of reminds me of Cowher or Dan Campbell.

Really what I want for this team is a Noll, Belicheat, or Parcells... I want that quiet curmudgeon that is never satisfied, wants perfection, and has a high football IQ and a high attention to detail. Tomlin had a high football IQ, but I think we were lacking attention to detail under Tomlin.

Jon Gruden anyone? Gruden loves Will Howard, and would probably be the only head coach that would be happy to have Will Howard as his starting QB. Kind of like Sean Payton in Denver being all in on Bo Nix when the rest of the world said Nix was a backup at best.

I know Brian Flores’ name is being batted around as a “top candidate” to replace Coach T, but could Rooney also see Jerod Mayo as another high value target that we should keep an eye on?

If you recall, he was shown the door after a single 4-13 season with the Pats just because Kraft favored someone with vision and who was capable of winning games.

Given the cultural differences between the Steelers and the Pats - and the 19 year’s of proof that we have a much more lax policy when it comes to accountability and winning games - do you think the Steelers could possibly be an ideal landing spot for Mayo? It’s difficult to ignore the synergies that could potentially exist here.

I mean, his body of work is small, how do you evaluate him on one season other than it was awful.

No thanks. More attractive candidates out there.
