The same reason people think a sixth-round pick who missed most of the season should be our starting QB

The miss on Pickett set the franchise back. I agree that a franchise QB needs to be a priority as well as a left guard as well as a receiver that will get respect opposite DK

Besides Porter Jr finally coming of his own the lack of developing secondary draft picks looms large. They also have gone into the bargain basement to stock the corner roster. If your going to do that pay a solid corner like a Haden type.

    Just a random thought

While we floundered with Pickett they certainly weren’t going to use a first on another QB

Is there any decent QB we could have drafted in the first that we passed on

At least Howard showed promise against high-level competition at Ohio State, but I certainly wouldn't want to go into 2026 relying on either guy.

Not unless you think it was some great loss that they didn't take Will Levis in 2023? That looks like they missed out on when they went into 2023 with Pickett as their guy.

If you want to play the hindsight game, maybe passing on Jackson Smith-Njigba, Zay Flowers, and Jordan Addison to take Broderick Jones was a mistake.

I mostly agree with this list.

But I don't think we go all in on (2). I also don't think we'll trade Queen (3).

Although I won't be surprised if we let Smith coach out his contract if he isn't hired as a HC somewhere.

Especially if the guy we hire is a defensive minded guy.

Gives at least some continuity so the new HC (I assume they will be young without any HC experience) can let the offense run more on autopilot in year 1. Then if they have the option to change OCs the following season if it doesn't work out well.

Re: Queen. It could happen. Cap wise it's not bad trading him ($3MM dead, $13MM cap savings). And I think that Wilson could come in and play that role at least reasonable well. But I also think it's a bit scary that we played Malik so much over Wilson last year. Although if Queen got hurt, I think Wilson would have been the every down ILB. Queen is still an NFL starter though. So they could easily let him play it out. If we weren't going to change the HC, I think keeping Queen would have been probably like 90%.

I still think keeping him is more likely than not. But if we can get a solid return, I'd be all for it.

FWIW, I think it was reasonable to take the gamble on Jones. He's been disappointing so far.

But I do think that he showed some improvement this year.

I don't want any part of that 5th year option. But I'd let him play out his contract. He can be a swing tackle at minimum.

I don't disagree with you. I'm just saying that if we were going to use hindsight, maybe taking one of those elite receivers would have been a better option.

Oh they definitely helped! So did Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, Alan Faneca etc. The Steel curtain defensive line was maybe the best ever!

Antonio Brown and Leveon Bell never even made it to the Superbowl with the Steelers. They were fantastic when they were here.

Rumor has it that Detroit is looking at Smith for their OC spot

Because I kept hearing how much they liked him, I'm not saying he's a starter but maybe become part of the rotation. He was a return man in college on special teams and has 4.3 speed.

It would be nice to have more than one WR on the team. It's also really unfortunate that Roman Wilson seems to be a miss.

Has to be a top priority this off season.

    That's interesting!

My understanding is that would need to be approved by the Steelers because it's a lateral move.

Maybe the new coaching staff will know how to develop and use him.

Willis my boy! Got into many heated discussion about him during the draft.

He’s coming along nicely. Don’t be a hater :lolol:

At the very least he is proving a valuable asset as a BU.
