What does Rodgers have to do with Lafleur?

Out of that list, I would go with LaFleur. He's been around both Shanahan and McVay. His brother is known for having a great offensive mind.
I think there's a lot of potential for him to develop into a great offensive minded coach.
Give him a strong D coordinator to work with and hope for the best.

That's was his coach of 4 years. And is the one he mentioned he respected like Tomlin the other day.

That's his brother. Matt coached Arod. Mike is the one in the poll

When I say "aura" I just mean the personality of leadership.... That aura was the main thing that Tomlin had going for him and it was an objectively good thing about Tomlin. It was the main reason to have him as your coach. If we had that aura with actual X's and O's prowess... that is a good thing. That would make a much better coach I think. Rooney even said in his press conference that he is looking for leadership as the first pre-requisite. The aura.... We can't just hire the opposite of Tomlin because we didn't like how his tenure ended. We want someone with Tomlin's strengths but are better in the areas where Tomlin was weak...

I'm thinking the next HC is not on that list.

Well, we could look to the MT coaching tree. Oh, no, wait, sorry, that tree was never planted. Couldn't resist.

So far Kubiak, i like what hes done with Darnold, of course lets see how they do in a pressure situation this weekend. The OC of the Bills or Rams seems good too.

not averse to a DC, but it seems like its better to get on OC this time. The stakes are higher for a high powered offense in this league.

Was MT on a list for this HC job way back when?

Don't know about you, but I would wager every applicant would say it is a huge competition. Which it is. Picking for fun who it's going to be is just fun. Have you ever applied for a job that others were competing for? Or did they put names in a hat and picked one?

Of the names on the polls, Kubiak seems the most promising to me. Charting a course with an offensive-oriented coach would be a great way to help the team catch up with the times. I would be fine with Shula. A lot of fans love Flores, but I'm not keen on him, unless he'll be returning as a DC. As a HC? No way. I lowkey do think Stefanski could potentially be an underrated option, though, tbh.

Oh, and Mike LaFluer would not be a bad pick, at all. Rodgers seemed to almost preemptively endorse him at his presser - perhaps he knew Tomlin was leaving and wanted to get a jump on elevating his former coach.

Have I ever applied for a job? Yes

Were others competing for that job? Would seem logical but I guess I really don't know.

Did 'they' put names in a hat and pick one? Again, I don't think so, but maybe.

Here's one for you. Do you think it's a competition who YOU like better for HC?

You mean you don't want to hire Matt Canada to lead the team? Lol

Personality and leadership are what I meant by it. I think Tomlin did that part well... I would want the same from our next coach.

Scheelhaase, Shula, and Anthony Weaver to interview for the position.... All seemingly good choices (and the guy I voted for in Scheelhaase)

Absolutely spot on. We've gone through a lot with divas and numb sculls doing what they want a lot of times and we don't need more of it. In fact, the less the new guy knows about the players, the more I like it. Everyone starting from scratch. Rogers, what a d!ck, always s has been always will be, when he is able to suit up. Fresh start coming into camp (not in helicopters either) and back to basics. We've lost our hardnosed, PS badass persona and no one fears playing us. That has to changes. Visiting teams should not want to get off the bus. No more dink and dunk or screen passing crap because someone was living in their fears. Horses up front and wreaking balls carrying it through / over the line. Tomlin ruined this team and made it into a rinse and repeat, predictable, and unsophisticated joke. Defense, for a team with a defensive genius, we missed the boat on that as well. He added nothing via his genius that made the D better. Good thing we were able to get Fitz as that season was circling the drain fast. And, of course, he was already developed, and we know there would zero chance in hell we could do something like. So, here we go. just my initial thoughts on a guy long past due to leave. Rooney, don't F this up, if that is possible. JMO>

How long will this take? I assume he has to be in place before end of April for the draft in Pittsburgh. Good for the city.

I want rings, not personality. I doubt MT had great leadership because he was buddy buddy with the players who still lost nearly half their games and 7-9 playoff games in a row and several legal entanglements.

You tend to not get one without the other. I am not saying that you have to be buddy-buddy or anything, but most of the highly successful coaches are known for their personality and culture management. I want rings too.. I am just saying that there aren't many great coaches that aren't natural leaders... I think it's a prerequisite.

I get your point. In the sense of am I the right picker, kind of, and it can be made fun. When you play bingo, am I playing against those who are also there? No, but I sure hope my card comes in first. B I N G O. Everything in life is in one way or another a competition, i.e. this site has pick em. So, is this competing? I think you can make what you want of it and be happy. JMO>

Sure looks like they’re leaning toward another defensive hire. I’d prefer an offensive guy this time, but, I’d be good with a defensive minded coach who doesn’t neglect the offense. Except for Flores. After his episode in Miami I want no part of him as a HC. Idc how great his potential is. He’d be a perpetual headache, IMO.
