The Steelers have tended to hire head coaches who are young and upcoming

That is why I believe age will be a factor

Now for assistant coaches age is not a factor

I'd tend to agree they looked at a young Cowher and Tomlin and could see it going that way again. However like I said before if the goal is SB quickly I think the resume is the most important factor well before age.

I don't know how true this is but on the Fan they were talking about the Steelers when Cowher retired. Grimm was on the shortlist and they were all ready to hand him the offer for the HC job until Tomlin came in and blew everyone away in his interview. He had a detailed plan for his vision for the team. They immediately dropped Grimm and hired Tomlin because of that interview. And the rest is history.

 

That's the same story that has been out there since Tomlin got hired.

That has always been the story. It was going to be Russ to the point of Faneca almost leading a player revolt over Russ not getting it. They said Tomlin wasn't even in the conversation until he blew the doors off in the interview. Then when they made the decision we got stories of how he told John Lynch he was really good but he could make him better and backed it up. Unfortunately I dont think those stories improved what he did as a Steelers head coach.
