In other words, no, you don't understand the hypocrisy. But by all means, please continue your lecture.

I am not saying you didn't. I just disregard arguments that call out fans, especially by sports media, it comes across as very entitled.

If a crowd boos a coach or team, they earned that scorn with their play on the field. The solution is to do better.

The funny thing is I am ok with that, and would have been ok with that 5 or 6 years ago.

Strange that you say that.... while Steelers got whipped in the 1984 AFC Championship by Dan Marino's aerial assault with Duper and Clayton. Dolphins had no trouble winning that game without a running game.

I heard it was affecting his family. I couldn’t stand the coach he became but by all accounts he is a good man and standup citizen.

Based on your usage, I'm not sure if you know how to use the word correctly. For some, you take the effort and for others you realize it's best not to bother.

You have entered Dan Marino into the chat? You didn't understand what I was saying then.

Yes having a prime Dan Marino on your team helps in every era!

You act like nobody passed the football in the 80's. That was not the case.

It's cool. People don't have to like me calling it out just as I don't like seeing a bunch of grown toddlers act like idiots for all the children to see.

People can call it what you want. It'll still happen, and i'll still b1tch about it.

Who knows what transpired in that meeting between Rooney and Tomlin behind closed doors. Did he really quit or did Rooney let him save face? Either way, it was time, and I'm good with the outcome.

To me, it stands to reason that Rooney made a business decision. A large portion of your customer base is unhappy with your product and are letting you know vocally and with their wallets. While their financials are good year over year, they are still average for the league. Having a championship caliber team no doubt leads to more revenue and profits. Just ask Clark Hunt. Steelers ownership is leaving money on the table, the longer Tomlin stayed.

Heinz in all due respect you didn't grasp what was being said. I'm not harping on the 80s. The STEELERS QB was in a drought that lasted for a long while imo. Mark Malone abd Bubby Brister were not the answer. Two playoff wins is hardly to write home about, although better than recent comparisons.

That sounds like a good discussion for another thread however

I don't disagree with anything said here. It very well could be Rooney asked him to step down, but that appears to be different what Schefter reported in the link provided. My understanding is that this caught Rooney off gaurd according to the report.

Without derailing the thread is this symptomatic of high expectations that the fan base has become accustomed to or is it a lowering of behavioral standards as a society in general.

I think you’re underestimating the impact of fans voicing their displeasure with the results of the past 9 years. As a $7B business, I would expect ownership to develop strategies and long term plans to protect and grow revenue. As part of developing those strategies, a smart business owner would find out what their paying customers actually want. There are various ways to do that with surveys, focus groups, looking at buying patterns, demographics, purchasing data, and so forth. Why wouldn't the franchise listen to what their customers are vocally telling them? I would hope that it's at least a data point for the owners.

    Wow
Who cares about a non losing season when you lose by 30 in WC game?!
Tomlin has left an awful roster full of has beens.
Yet, we as fans are rude and disrespectful for booing such an awful product?
Hate to break this to you, the new coach will never be accused of winning a Superbowl with Tomlins players!
First 4 yrs, with Cowhers players were the best for Mikey.
Last 15yrs, 3-12 in playoffs. Any other team he would’ve been fired yrs ago. Disrespectful? Mmmm k

Tomlin heard the fire chants loud and clear. When he came away after winning the division pounding his chest and blowing kisses it was directed right to the face of the fans who were shouting for his dismissal. That’s the takeaway that I got anyways. Tomlin wears his emotions on his sleeve. IU’s Cignetti is the complete opposite. Kind of like Tom Landry was. I like that more but I do expect Cignetti to get very emotional if he wins the National Championship on Monday Night.

Yeah it was ok for Mikey to beat his chest and signal the kiss my ass to everyone. This is what was interpreted by a lot of people or fans.
    But we are disrespectful!?

    Far from it.

I was a huge Tomlin fan until I wasn’t. 19 years is a long time to coach one team and when the last 9 years has no playoff wins I expect fans to complain about it.

Tomlin’s been blowing kisses to the camera and stands for several years now. It’s not new.

I’m by no means saying not to boo. Or cheer. Whatever makes you happy as a fan.

But let’s not pretend it moves the needle on career and franchise altering decisions.

or at least we should all hope it does not. Because if it does, your teams leadership is already losing in a way they won’t be able to fix.
