I would be surprised if they hired somebody already but one never knows. They do have a good consulting group.
But I thought there's people on teams still active in the Playoffs they want to talk with, so if they were to announce this early, not sure it is a good thing.

I think it is more of a "State of the Franchise" deal, "We're conducting interviews, etc..."

If you buy that bs, it is always family related when a coach leaves. Being a pro NFL coach and family is not ideal . As a coach in the NFL. you work 13+ hour days, travel often, etc ....

Just a hunch his daughter is not in Tennessee.

As for Art II, I believe he told Tomiln to exit gracefully on your terms or you are fired!

He chose an option that is safe for his legacy.

Otherwise he is under contact coach the Steelers

No not even close but people are equating three long tenured head coaches in the last 60+ years with there being some sort of age requirement. They may indeed be looking for a younger coach who can be there for the next 25 years but if they confine the search based solely on that criteria they could miss the right coach.

It comes down to are they looking for a new head coach to lead the team back to the SB or are they looking for one that will be the fourth coach in franchise history to stay 10+ years and continue the trend of being a franchise built on consistency. Ideally we would want both but shouldn't be avoiding turning over rocks because someone is in their 60's.

I wasn't familiar with him until now and went to look at his record and history. I was going to say there is no way the Steelers have someone in mind already without being in compliance with the Rooney Rule but he would fill the requirement. Some some stories though that said he was staying at ND no matter what.

And I don't recall Munchak ever returning to the NFL full time after he left the Steelers .

They just announced Freeman was staying at ND yesterday, the Steelers can't announce a HC hire right away they have to go through the interview process of multiple candidates.

I sort of believe that is the case... Cowher actually got a press conference to say goodbye to the fans.

Tomlin gets an IG post? ...unless that is what he wanted? Sounds like Rooney said, "Your'e Fired!"

Good god no, just no, no, no, no, absolutely no. Ben you have two Lombardi's, boatload of records, and a modicum of respect from the league and some fans so just let it go. The guy who thought BA was a great coach and cost himself a third SB because he wanted to be SB MVP isn't someone they should be consulting with.

We'll see if this is anything meaningful.

My guess is that it's just going to be to publicly thank Tomlin. To say that there's a process underway...probably say something nice about how we haven't had to do this in a long time because we've had incredible success hiring coaches.

Probably also say something about how despite the changes, the goal will still be to win the SB.

So, my guess is mostly nothing.

And IIRC, he didn't end up doing all that well in Denver.

I'll agree with you on we don't need Ben to pick our coach, but BA was a great coach, just look what he did when he left.

There is a lot that can be said about Bruce Arains and his coaching, not by me mind you, but by people. I'll leave it at that.

He won coach of the year for being an interim coach in Indy for a squad motivated to play for their actual coach who had to step away that season because of medical issues. The Colts lost in the playoffs. Coached the Cardinals into further irrelevance before getting fired. Coached the Buccaneers to a SB win where Tom Brady called the offense that leaned heavily on a strong running game in order to stack wins. Left the following year due to health concerns. Yeah not a huge fan of BA's post Steelers accomplishments.

He was 49-30-1 with the cardinals,by far their best head coach in Cardinals history

BA was a good coach. He was let go because he didnt share Rooneys philosophy who wanted to build a better ground game and most importantly, protect Ben.

BA had success at everyone of his stops, his resume speaks for itself.
