    Interesting indeed.

Wonder if the team has other moves it elects to make in the days ahead. Teryl Austin and Pat Meyer need to go as well. Head Coaching Search likely will continue on until shortly after the Super Bowl.

The Rooney's hire Head Coaches for the long haul. Gotta be someone in their 30s for certain. Needs to have latent leadership ability as a pre requisite.

Praying it is an Offensive Minded one. :beg:

There is a tried and true method for hiring head coaches in Pittsburgh but I do not trust Art II to not do something dumb like hiring Arthur Smith.

Arthur Smith loves his pet players. He wouldn't be my first choice. I have visions of Jonnu Smith being featured in a bad offense.

Does Jonnu Smith have any family members that play football? God I hope not.

Oh man, I thought of that immediately. I hope to heck not. Go, find the young, modern OC or DC that is really improving another team and shows good leadership skills. Don't hire a Tomlin-clone, a dude that is a synonym for mediocre, just as Tomlin IS mediocre.

They have a tired and true formula and it will play a big part in the search. Stefanski will be on a list whether its HC or OC for sure. Guy always has strong run games.

Good thing there are no handshake deals or promises that need to be kept. I like Munchak as a dark horse.

Marcus Freeman has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow also....people are speculating he might be leaving Notre Dame for Pittsburgh. I dont know....if he had scheduled a players meeting for the morning and the press conference after that....then I'd say he's gone and the new Steeler coach but no player meeting scheduled that I know of. I think Freeman is holding the conference to address the assault charge brought against him that has now been dropped and to reaffirm he is staying at Notre Dame....but we'll see.

I think he quit the Steelers due to Tomlin, but is hard to prove. It was not coaching ability that made him move on.

This will be the most critical decision regarding the Steelers that Rooney will have to make in his lifetime. With two other division rivals competing for the same talent Rooney has to get this right. It could determine what this franchise will look like for the next decade. The Steelers value "CEO type" head coaches so any candidate will have to display these traits; effective communicator; well-spoken in front of media and large groups, Strong vision for the future, Risk taker, sound decisionmaking.
Oh, and he also needs to know something about football :icon razz:

I agree, but I think we will go with Chris Shula (rams DC) Maybe Minter (chargers DC).

I think the meeting will be more so saying what we already know.
    - Tomlin stepped down
    - we are looking for HC.

The last three HC hires were made late January so I expect this to be a fairly quick process. Has to be, new HC needs to get everything together in preparation of the draft. He’ll want to have his staff constructed for that.

3 traits of the last 3 HC’s were:

    Age, all in their 30’s
    Leaders
    Defensive backgrounds

I think being a leader is their top requisite, the other two may have flexibility. If not in their 30’s certainly early 40’s since their hires are usually around for the long haul they like them young.

What side of the ball their experience is in is probably the least important.

    We’ll see.

I'd like him on staff in whatever capacity they can find. I am curious about why everyone thinks that age will be in the top five requirements.

I think the first two traits are very likely, I think with the league pivot that the 3rd trait isn't a given anymore. I could see a potential pivot to an offensive background.

I do agree that Shula and Minter will be in the mix.
