Going to be interesting what Darnold does in playoffs
Stunk the joint up in Minnesota last season
I would prefer Mayfield over Darnold any day of the week
    Twice on Sunday

Too short, and again I'm not saying he can't be great, I'm saying his height will always be a hindrance. Just like it was for Wilson. That's why Wilson didn't age well. They alway have to move around, even when the OL is blocking well, because they need windows to throw .

You can get young without having to lose. Losing doesn't give You more draft picks, only a higher draft pick. Almost every position in football has great players drafted from every round. It all about drafting the correct ones.

Have faith in new coaching staff
The old regime I had no faith in
Find the young talent and let the coaches develop them
This is the first draft in years I am actually excited for
Plus, Kahn and crew did have goid first 2 drafts
Its early, but takes a coupe if seasons to gel
    Esp the O line
    Get your shades out
    Future is looking bright

I'm quite interested to see myself. I would be torn. I like Mayfield better myself, but I like Darnolds size, and arm strength better. If You could mix them up like Frankensteins monster, then they would be awesome. LoL

If we would’ve got Darnold instead of Arod
We wouldn’t have made the playoffs this season

I'm glad the old staff is gone, but they did develop many a player. JPJ, TJ Watt, Highsmith, and Washington are just few that comes to mind.

    Hard to say??
We shouldn't have been able to make the playoffs with Fields, and Wilson, but we did. We shouldn't have been able to make the playoffs with the Mason, Trubisky, Pickett squad, but we did.
For all our ex HCs faults, and I'm happy that's over, let's not take away what he could do.

Tomlin and company did make an eatable dish out of a lot of garbage
    Esp at qb position
But who does this all fall back on?
    Who kept getting these players?
We were good enough to sneak into playoffs
But reality struck year after year in first rd of playoffs
I appreciate what coach T did
Wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors
    It was time

Not being a student of the game usually revolves around the intangibles of the position. Much of which I have already outlined. For more simple terms, over relying on your athletic gifts.

Trinidad seems to be the case. Hope I am wrong but I have seen QBs like him one too many times.

I don’t like his tape either. I don’t see any NFL traits there.

Chambliss is short and he's a one-year wonder.

I don't think we should ignore the fact that the probabilities of drafting good to very good players drops off pretty dramatically the deeper you go in the draft.

Particularly for QB, which obviously matters most.

It is true that Brady was drafted late. But most above average QBs are early picks.

My guess is that this is true for all positions. But more true for high contact value positions (QB, WR, edge, OT, etc). Good guys at lower contract value positions are probably more likely to be available after the 1st. For example, it's hard to draft a center in round 1 because you're basically never going to give an OC a 5th year option because it forces you to pay them like an OT since the NFL groups all the OL together for the contract calcs.

It's possible to not get worse during a rebuild. But I think if we get worse at QB (I personally think Willis in for Rodgers is getting worse) while getting worse at HC (Tomlin has issues, but he's a high floor coach) means that it's more likely than not that we'll do worse next year.

If we go into next season with Mason / Willis / Howard and a new HC and whatever cost cutting measures we implement on D, I think it's pretty hard to imagine the team being better in the short term. Which I think is OK because I think we should probably be be trying to prioritize the medium term. Not a full on tank (e.g. trade all the good players for picks). But a rebuild.

Obviously, I hope we have a draft that's even better our '74 class. But there's almost no way that happens.

    I hope so.

I tend to believe that there's a whole lot of chance re: drafting in today's NFL (unlike the 70s where Nunn was scouting schools other teams didn't look at).

Yet he's only 23. He started his freshman year at 17.
