Just heard on NFL Network Bell will be running with the 1st team sat. nite in the 1st pre-season game.

Has he just earned his Starting Job?

He was sharing time with the first teamers when I was at training camp so Im not totally shocked. I love this actually! I cant wait to see him on the field!

In all honesty i think most saw this coming. Not saying he's already been named starter for the regular season but for preseason i expected to see him start. At this point, unless he totally blows his preseason opportunity to shine, I also expect to see him named starter for day1.

He's going to get some 1st team reps. Tomlin also said he'd likely play later in the game as well.

Curious, anyone hear if Ben is going to play at all in Saturday's game?

Nothing surprising here...they are giving a guy who has been solid in camp some earned reps with the big boys. While a lot think he probably will be the day 1 starter...just as with player shifts/etc during camp do not read too much into anything during the preseason (or camp) like every other year.

Coach said the starters will be in for 10-12 plays...and I would think since Ben is a starter he will be in there with them...unless he says otherwise over the next 48 hours or so.

As much as I want to see Ben connect for some quick scores, I'd like to see a decent drive with both run and pass that puts points on the board. After that, Gradkowski can hand off the ball to Bell.

Yeah but, Ben is the only starter that has had a recent "knee procedure" done (that I recall of at least). That's why I was asking.

Didn't spend a 2nd rd pick on a RB to ride the pine. Only way he doesn't start is if he sucks ass and so far he's been solid.

The day we drafted him I was positive he'd start week 1, and possibly early in preseason. Then, to my surprise, both Dwyer and Redman came to camp in the best shape of their lives and competing hard. I thought Bell would have his work cut out for him, and maybe only see 10 or so carries a game for the first part of the year. But now it's looking like he'll exceed my expectations, and beat out the other two despite their improvements. I bet by the third preseason game he'll be the unquestioned starter.

The RB situation is better than I ever would have imagined the day of the draft.

I feel a little bad for Dwyer and Redman because they are working so hard to win the job but if the Steelers thought they were capable, they never would have drafted Bell. I'm glad they are working so hard though because they will be solid backups.

Couple articles about it if you care to read.
Sounds like he may not be "THE starter", but definitely will see time with the first sting, and some time with the rest...
Not surprised, but, I liked to hear Tomlin say "He has earned it... The way he has been running the ball speaks for itself."
That is what I was HOPING for when we drafted him!:towel:

Just as I predicted before the draft, that the starting RB for 2013 was not on the team yet.No I didn't predict that it would be Bell, but knew that the Steelers had to have an every down back that they could count on so they could get back to a running game that has to happen for the Steelers to be successful.

Put him on the field for the first series of downs just to knock a little rust off then send him to the bathroom for the rest of the game, well, on second thought.....

You would hope he's learned a lesson and wouldn't need a chastity belt.

I don't expect to see Ben play in this game at all; With his knee still in question I doubt if he sees any action, I expect Gradkowski will play the 1st quarter and the rest of the game time will be split with Jones and the other QB...

Ben is going to play it will be a series like the steelers always do the first preseason game. The knee isn't really in question the clean out was like 2 months ago.
