I just wanted to say Thank you. I've been a long time Steeler fan. When you started 19 years ago, I didn't know what to expect and frankly neither did any of us. My sons were 2 and 3 years old at the time and I took them that year to their first Steelers game. We have been to and watched many great and many heartbreaking games over the years. As a Christmas gift this year I took my family to their first playoff game ever and although the outcome wasn't what any of us wanted, the lead up to the game, the atmosphere in Pittsburgh and the great tailgating with other Steelers fans yesterday was something my family will remember forever.

The Steelers are a big part of our family and I just wanted to say thank you for all the memorable games under your tenure and I wish you good luck and godspeed in the future.

We lost a decade. Take your $100m and go away as fast as possible. No joy just frustration and hopelessness. I thank you only for finally leaving.

Tomlin is Cowher. Just Cowher won at the end and Tomlin won at the beginning (both won because they had Ben when he was at his best).

Many hated Cowher when he left too (was on the Trib board at the time).

My guess is that after enough time passes, people will be more positive on Tomlin and his legacy too. Especially if we end up being an average team in the medium term.

I hope to not see it happen, but imagine what Steelers fans would be saying if we had a typical Browns season where we're out of contention by the bye week...

I think it's possible to thank and be appreciative of Coach T for all he did/ the good times and also be frustrated about the play off failures and shortcomings of the team.

Thank you coach T. But now a new era begins.

if we sre moving in a positive direction. E.g. we are not being gashed in the run defense, we are opening up the whole field on offense, miscommunication is at a minimum etc. if we are moving in the right direction then a bad season can be tolerated.

Yes, sad but excited for the future. It was awesome to have a team that felt like you had a change every year but always just not quite enough. Won't put all the blame on him but at least this shakes the tree and we can finally start over for better or worse.

I do fully expect some dark times ahead and only question is how long. Hoping we get lucky on the first one we get and I would want nothing more than for that new coach to help us win the Super Bowl. So we can say, oh he won with Tomlin's team. And the cycle will continue. :)

But thanks Mike Tomlin, have been frustrated but also grateful to have you as a coach.

I was glad when Cohwer left too. I am not sure of the Tomlin legacy.

many will point to non losing seasons, blah blah blah

I will compare him to Shottenheimer and Marvin Lewis.

I guess it depends what glasses you wear.

The playoff performance the past 7 of them were TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

I have to give Tomlin credit for getting the most out of little. He won with Duck Hodges, Mason Rudolph, Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and a 42 year old Aaron Rodgers. The problem was he could get a subpar team to sneak into the playoffs every year but because he had such a poor roster he would get blown out by teams who actually belonged in the playoffs.

I'm sure some will still strongly dislike him in the future.

But many will mellow when the pain of these playoff losses fades and we think about the successes early. And how he did a lot to let Ben be Ben (something Cowher wasn't as good at IMO).

I don't think Tomlin should be in the Hall. I don't think Cowher should have gotten in either.

But he's been a good coach for us for a long time.

I'm grateful for his work in the Burgh. And excited to see what comes next. I think the short term will be painful.

But hopefully that means we end up better in the medium to long term.

Hoping that Tomlin moving on means that Rooney allows a real rebuild. But worried that it won't.

I think Tomlin was the right coach at the right time and just stayed past his expiration date.

I think he became too hands on and didnt delegate enough with too much say in personnel decisions. It’s just a natural process of gaining significant clout from being someplace as long as he was.

    I don't disagree here.

It's why I hope we do what we did the last two times.

Go with a young guy who isn't high on his own reputation. Surround him with above average coordinators. And have them form a genuine collaboration.

I think this is what happened with both Cowher and Tomlin.

I do think that Tomlin became too hands on. Particularly on D. It's why I liked Butler and the tension between the secondary guy (Tomlin) and the LB guy (Butler). Just like I think the tension between Ben and Haley probably made Ben grow (even though Haley sounds like he was an ******* by all accounts).

I also think we saw this when Flores was here. Alex at the Depot would be charting the defense for their site and it seemed like every game he'd talk about the new wrinkles they were doing that week. Hopefully having someone younger and hungrier helps with this aspect of the team (where opposing teams say we're using the same plays and nomenclature for the last decade or whatever).

Hoping that we keep our track record on coaching hires. It's easy to miss on coaches though.

I'm a results guy, you got blown out effectively in the last 7 playoff games and looked outclassed in all of them. That falls on the leader period. The fact he wasn't fired is mind-boggling. If this wasn't a "Hey we need you to resign to save you from being fired" then I salute him for doing something right for the organization on his way out. We are way late on a rebuild and now it will just take longer to be resurrected from the ashes.

I too got tired of him at the end. That said, he was my very first Head Coach that I enjoyed back when I started watching the NFL in 2008. Tomlin won a lot of games; 10th all time among coaches for certain. His Playoff Record doesn't do him any favors but he was consistent as hell; for better and for worse.

Not many NFL Coaches can claim that.

Thank you Mike Tomlin. Truly. For everything. Not the ending this Canadian wanted but you got me into American Gridiron Football.

Wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

He had a good career with us, but his expiration date had passed this decade... I believe he can be successful elsewhere, but it will be important for him (and like every head coach) to have a good coaching staff around him, which was by far his biggest problem in recent years.

Thank you Tomlin for your effort, this is not easy to be in the same place for 19 years!

**** Tomlin. Anything he did that was good was washed away by his terrible coaching the last decade.

i am thankful for all the wins tomlin brought the organization and the fans. but i was also frustrated with the mediocrity and playoff blowouts. but the biggest reason i felt tomlin needed to go wasn't the mediocrity and playoff blowouts. it was mostly because every year he would come out and say big changes are on the horizon... we're going to do this and do that... then crickets. he never made a real change. when i say his message had become stale that is what i am talking about.

the biggest change he really made over the last 4 years was he actually hired an OC that had experience and a plan. although i am not sure it really worked out but it was some kind of change but at that point for me it was a little too little too late.

i am glad he is now gone. i may regret some losing seasons while rebuilding. but i also feel that as long as he was here nothing would have changed. sometimes even a bad change is good. but i hope we don't have to deal with that.

i was around for the 70s, the 90s, and the 2000s....but i also lived through the 80s. it sucked but those years in the 80s are what brought around the 90s. hopefully the late 2020s won't be as rough as the 80s.

Im happy he wasnt fired and that may have been a parting gift to the Steelers by Tomlin because anyone that wants his services will need to compensate them since they own his rights still.

    Yesterday
I woke up this morning and for some reason, had a feeling I would see this in the news today.

Overall, I liked Tomlin and what he did with the organization. He was a class act and I hope he has a great future whatever he chooses to do. That said, I found myself getting tired of seeing the same thing over and over the last few years. My concern, however, is how much of that is Tomlin and how much of that is the shift from Dan Rooney to Art? Are things being ran the same way from the top down?

Obviously, I have no way to answer that question (and I don't think anyone whose not inside the building could really answer it). I do hope that whatever has happened in the past, we stop patching holes and start rebuilding.
