I have been fortunate to go to training camp about 12 times in the last 15 years,
the only player I have observed exerting themselves was James Harrison, If we are to compete
against top level talent, players need to come into camp in SHAPE (Lamaar Woodley, OL, Troy) I also think that the players need to be pushed more in this training camp environment, Mike Tomlin is a players coach lets players run the show, take days off.(Hence camp cupcake) Do you think the Emperor would do this? LOL No him and Woody and Perles would have been right in their faces encouraging improvement. Oklahoma anyone? Many people ask, why can't the Steelers blow out people, wear down opponents in the 4th quarter. I think you have found your answer.

looks like they focused on making this year a lot more football like. we won't lose all these close games this year. I think it's made them more focused. set the bar high for these young players and don't speak of the days of when twinkies were part of training camp.

If Ben can find a way to close out games instead of throwing game sealing turnovers they should be able to win a few more games.

This thread might have been applicable to years past, but not this year when many players have shown up in peak form, and Coach Tomlin has run more live drills than the team has seen since Coach Noll was in Latrobe.

Honestly, I don't know if the Emperor would be successful in today's NFL. Before everyone smashes me for blasphemy, take this into consideration, nothing is stagnant, society has changed, these players are different, emotionally as well. I'm not saying he couldn't adapt, I'm saying what worked a long time ago doesn't necessarily work today. Conditioning is important yes. So is play calling. So are adjustments during the game. So is football knowledge, as it pertains to knowing and being able to apply the playbook, not reacting but being proactive. So is luck regarding injuries. All of those things I'm sure the Emperor would do well at. But the last part of that is chemistry. Assuming the Emperor would run the show today the same as long ago, I'm not so sure that it would work. Tomlin seems to have his finger on the pulse of the NFL, which to me gives him an advantage working the with the psyche that is today's NFL athlete.

I get what your saying and agree to a degree, however, football is still football. The offense still has to score and the defense still has to stop it. Funny thought has just crossed my mind...in the old days these guys killed themselves for little or no money. Now days they pamper themselves for millions.
