Barry Sanders

I was told by a football coach that the most overrated statistic from the combine was the 40 time, and the most underrated was the short shuttle. It is the difference between fast and fast on a football field. Think Julian Edelman.
I would like to see what Sanders’ short shuttle time was. 4 seconds or so is elite.

I played LB against a RB like Sanders in school. He would juke and spin and I would be grabbing at air. Sanders was a force of nature. I remember when he announced his retirement and the Lions thought he was joking. He got tired of being the only good player on the team and quit.

 

When I was helping with one of my sons youth teams, we had a RB that was like that. Maybe 10U? We used to say he couldn't be caught in a phone booth. While hyperbole, there was some truth to it.
