I have no problem with the hitting, these guys were soft last year, the new CBA coddles these guys too much. Except for Embernate they just have some bumps and bruises, no big deal.

There is a reason why we haven't done this much hitting in training camp since the 80s.

That's not even a remote possibility since we have less than half the practices they had back then. The tweet you're basing your argument on says that we've never started hitting this early. They're doing it now because they have 50% less time to practice. They aren't allowed two a day practices anymore which has been the norm since the dawn of time. They're also only allowed to practice in pads 14 times once the season has started. That's right not even once a week over the course of the season.

Peter King after spending some time at Steelers TC.
This is what we want" if the Steelers survive this new practice tactic they’ll certainly rank as one of the most physical teams in a league that’s last CBA is making it a less physical one".

not to mention that's when we are at our best and we are the only team to vote down that CBA. they like this stuff and feed off of it.

let's not forget we are in quite a transition of players and that transition won't end this year. we have to know who to keep before cut-down day. you find that out by live action at camp.

the vets have to be out there too. we have had bad starts to seasons way to many times the last couple of years. add all the youth starting and it's a must do.

We already are and always have been one of the most physical teams in football. I just keep help but think we are about to lose one of our starters due to it and to think otherwise would be foolish.

your right, it was suggs, webb, and ngolta(sp?) last year. webb was early in the season. probably because he didn't hit enough in the preseason. i'm going with that. LOL:smiley1:

Injuries happen. Look at Maclin, Pitta, CB in SF... they happened last year, they happened in camp cupcake so on and so forth. We have less than 50% of the practice time of years past. Tomlin is doing everything possible to prepare them and put the best possible team on the field in 2013. If you think we were the most physical team in football last year then you weren't paying attention. The Browns came out and beat our asses last year. Do you remember the Chiefs running the ball down the throats of our defense? The most physical team in the league my ass.

It's a stupid move. He is going to get somebody hurt if he keeps this up. If it is such a good idea then why don't more teams do it and why haven't the Steelers done it since Noll? The nfl is brutal enough with each game being equivalent to a car crash why wear your team out and risk injury before it even starts? Don't bring that we gotta be physical bs because we are and have been. We have been to 4 super bowls without all this hitting as well. I'm going to laugh when yinz are all jumping off buildings when one of our starters goes down for the season in training camp.

I'm willing to bet that these little ailments are dealt with by every player every week throughout the year, this is not news nor something to worry about, no one plays every game feeling 100%. I like the move, don't know about you but our guys looked soft to me last year and haven't seemed tough to me since Goodell neutered us. Now maybe after an adjustment period to the new rules, our guys can get back to being physical and intimidating.

No no player plays at 100% so why make it worse. With the new rules you can only be so physical and I don't see what beating our own team up has to do with that. I'm fine with some hitting but a week straight of 11 on 11 is too much and you are asking for injuries.

Watch how the Navy Seals train on Hell week and look how they perform. You have to be put through the ringer to be the toughest. Some can say this is apples and oranges but tough is tough no matter what. Tomlin will ease off like today if he feels its hurting the team.

they have already said it's only about 20-25 plays 11 on 11. we can't just bubble wrap all our players. we were 8-8 last year. we don't have a lot of guys with a lot of experience. this year is all about bringing back hard work as a team and MT is setting the stage for a good season. it's not like we didn't deal with injuries when they didn't hit this early. we are also 2-2 in those super bowls you speak of. did noll lose any?

And are the navy seals going right from hell week into 16 straight battles? The two don't compare in any way shape or form. I'm former military and have a cousin who was a seal. They do hell week for a lot more reasons then toughness. How Tue hell can he not feel he is hurting the team when our first two draft picks are "working their way back.". Don't you think the goal line drill would have been huge for bell and jones?

You're right it does a whole lot more than toughen them up. It creates teamwork and weeds out the members that can't cut it which is exactly what Tomlin needs to do. Why don't you include the rest of the quote since it's rather important? You know the part that says "in the next 24-48 hours".

Here's an article written by someone that actually played NFL football condoning the type of camp Tomlin is running.

You can get injured on the first play of the first game of the season, just as easily as in camp. Injuries happen. I like Tomlin's approach.

I like the approach.. The whole team seems pizzd, from the head coach on down. I think we're in for a good season.
