Any other season I might blow this off but this has been a rollercoaster for the HC. "Fire Tomlin" chants can hit the psyche of even a long tenured HC. Tomlin spoke about being an "entertainment" component of sport, acknowledging there is something beyond what happens on the field. Add in the fact that Tomlin stepping down would save Rooney the tough decision on an extension next season.

"According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, while there is no "firm evidence" that Tomlin would leave Pittsburgh for any reason, a "source close to Tomlin" has called the idea of Tomlin stepping down "at least a possibility." Per the report, in such a scenario Tomlin would "be more intrigued" by going into television than coaching for another team.
Mike Tomlin's future has been hotly debated of late. There is no firm evidence as of now that Tomlin would leave Pittsburgh after 19 seasons. He's been fiercely loyal to Pittsburgh. But a source close to Tomlin believes stepping away is at least a possibility. Does he need a break? It's a question that hasn't quite gone away, though only Tomlin truly knows what he will do. The source believes Tomlin would be more intrigued by doing TV than returning to the coaching market, should he leave the Steelers. The source wonders what Tomlin has left to chase as an NFL coach. A separate source with ties to Tomlin is confident he will stay in Pittsburgh. Either way, Aaron Rodgers and Tomlin can attempt a spirited run in the playoffs, and TV opportunities would await Tomlin if he does want to entertain them. My understanding is that networks have had open invitations for Tomlin if he ever left coaching," Fowler wrote.

Works for me. I'd much rather listen to Tomlinisms on TV analyst shows than before and after him coaching games. But if I was forced to bet $1,000, I'd bet that he will coach out his contract.

The one thing he can chase is Noll's record of 209 career wins, putting him at #8 all time for HCs.

A football draft prospects panel-style show with Tomlin, Cowher, Dungy, Herm, and Jason Garrett. Just breaking prospects down from head to toe, smarts to ability.

I dont know who keeps pushing the TV narrative but it’s bogus. Tomlin said he has no interest in that, said he doesnt like evaluating his peers and that totally rings true to me when you look at his personality.

209-201. Would be funny (not really) if he ties him next season which would mean he has his first losing season.

If that is true we either won the SB or had a terrible season cause he is signed through 2027.

Team is facing a rebuild in a season or two. I can see it happening.

all the more reason to go out with a bang now. “The future is now”.

With all our picks year, this would be the time to go let a new coaching regimen come in and build the team the way they want to.

I'm going to bet the streak on this one.

Tomlin Steelers coach in 2026. And likely for as long as he wants given the history of the team.

Edited to add... I also basically never trust anything that starts with "a source close to.."

I did not know about that 2027 option. I see it now. Rodgers becomes first QB to win a SB with the team he beat in the SB and Tomlin calls it quits.

I'm all for that option too! And wouldn't cry a tear. But I also think I have a significantly better shot at winning the Powerball than this happening for Tomlin.

I honestly think its networks dropping info to insiders to gauge Tomlin's interest. Typically national media sources are agents. I just doubt Tomlin's agent is pushing this because I don't see what Tomlin's side stands to gain here, considering the Rooney's would pay him what he wants and will likely exercise his 2027 option year. About the only possible scenario here is the Giants trading for Tomlin.

Yea, that interview with Eisen is why I think the rumors are coming from the networks and not Tomlin's agent.
