He was lock down when he was at that position. And he got forced to safety.

He cant play corner anymore. The plan going into the season was to play man, Tomlin even said we have the pieces to play man on anyone but that didn't work out, got exposed badly and that triggered his move to safety. Safety should be where he primarily plays now but they need to get younger.

Porter and Pierre both will get paid. Nobody wants to go back to the days of having lousy corners. No franchise QB to pay, so affordability shouldn't be an issue

Ramsey hasn't been lockdown at CB for a couple of seasons now.

Steelers banked on a change of scenery revitalizing him. It didn't happen.

Porter will get 26 to 30 a year for 4 years with a boatload of guaranteed money I believe.

Pierre might follow the money elsewhere while the irons hot. They will not break the bank on him but will offer a fair deal.

Ramsey may not be able to play safety anymore either in a year or two. He's 31 already.

One, Two in the rankings! Combined with our pass rush, we should have had the #1 pass defense in the NFL.

porter has been playing well. he deserves a pro bowl spot. yeah he is a little handsy but most lock down CBs are especially the taller ones and it's usually on smaller quicker WRs.

i think ramsey could play safety for a couple more years. he may have lost a step or two but he is smart and a willing and able tackler. plus from where i am sitting i think he has something to do with the progression of the younger CBs.

i actually think they draft safety in the first round this upcoming draft and a WR in the second. they need a safety because they are using other teams retreads at this point and need to get younger. i also don't think there is QB that will be available where they will end up in the draft worth taking at that position.

i have not been a pierre backer but he has seemingly stepped up his play as of late. is that something finally clicking in his head or has he learned something from someone? he has decent size and speed, that was never really an issue. but he definitely is playing better and a bit smarter.

The real question is whose hands are worst between the two.

I am shocked to see James Pierre up there on that list. I was never a fan of his on defense, loved his play on special teams though.

Maybe there is something to this talk about him getting a big payday from some team this offseason.

Those big plays to Flowers were more freak accidents than anything else.

I would blame Highsmith for not knowing how to tackle, than Queen blowing the coverage. I still have no idea how Highsmith does not sack Lamar on that play.

Porter's development doesnt surprise me in the slighest. He was a Top 15 Prospect from his class. Nothing that he has done since has swayed that opinion.

If anything, Porter got robbed of a Pro Bowl, like Zach Frazier, this season. That said, Pro Bowls are a joke anymore anyways. I would care a lot more if he starts collecting All Pro honors.

I think someone was wearing black and gold glasses when ranking these players.

Quinyon Mitchell was lockdown this year:

Tgtd 81 times; 40% comp rate allowed (#1 in NFL for 50+ tgts), 18 pass breakups (#1 in NFL), 5.0 yds/tgt (#5 in NFL). Porter did beat him out for INTs with 1 vs 0.

Porter at $25M+/yr?? That's a tough swallow. They are already paying Ramsey like a CB even though he isn't (and won't be) playing the position.

Don't get me wrong though. I like JPJ... a lot.

Porter has been very solid second half of the year. Hopefully he is finding himself in the league and will continue to improve the arrow is pointing up.

That particular TD was a defensive breakdown after Lamar escaped the sack. It sucks but Ben used to do that stuff all the time. Teams can only cover downfield for so long. The other two TDs were pathetic secondary breakdowns though. Those dudes were wide open. Also Ramsey was horrible Sunday Night. I have not been impressed with him this year outside a couple games.

Exactly. Anybody who doubts that should watch the loss to the Bengals again. They abused him Ramsey all game long, including the long pass that set up the game-winning score.

Some of those big plays were the result of the Steelers running cover zero because of Lamar and Henry, I doubt we will see that much against a team like Houston.

We will not have to go to the extremes we did without Henry on the field.
