    From the picks thread......... continued:

My two oldest basses frets are still good. Just played them the other day. Ibanez Soundgear SR506 and Ibanez ATK 305. I like super low action to point of almost buzzing... and play almost exclusively fingerstyle and pick. Hardly ever slap... so I have a lighter touch than most bassists. I have a couple of basses set up ultra-low for string "rattle" (not buzzing) like on Tool's first 2 albums.... Opiate and Undertow. Sounds freakin' badass.

I personally like @HeinzMustard@HeinzMustard . I don't have to agree with people to like them. Hell I disagree with most my family on everything, but I still love them.

I have most of My Guitars set up that way. A lot of people can't play my guitars without getting buzzing. The only guitar I have that isn't this way is the one I play slide on.
I also play with a pick, and fingers together in what is a hybrid fashion. That way I can do both , and quickly switch back, and forth. I actually thought I came up with it. LoL Until I noticed some others doing it. Like the late great Brent Hines, Jerry Reed, Brian Seltzer, Mark Knopfler, and so on.
I even play bass, mandolin, and banjo this way.

"Sultans of Swing" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Love the guitar work on that song. Also like "Finish What You Started" on Van Halen's 0U812 album... it's got that similar style... "Lay Down Sally"- Clapton, too.

I think we agree more than disagree. You're a glass half full type... and I'm a glass half empty type.

We disagree on Tomlin and overall state of the team... but we agree on pretty much everything else.

I have a mid 80s Charvel Jackson red strat style guitar. I also have an Ibanez S-series purple/blue sunburst that is strat style. You can see that one in this version of O Holy Night we did for a Christmas program (I'm left of center, playing the lead parts, some rhythm, and the outro solo, which is a solo I really love for this song).

I also have a Washburn sunburst yellow acoustic that has a really great acoustic tone.

Sultans of Swing is what got me into them. I wasn't a fan of Money for nothing, except the end with Sting singing, I want my MTV part, but the first time I hear Sultans of Swing, I went out, and bought that album.

Actually, and I've said this before, I don't care if they fired Tomlin, I truly don't.
I just don't like people making stuff up, or down grading what has been done.
For example: Just because a person is a robber, it doesn't make him a murderer, or a rapist.
You can dislike something, without adding over blown falsehoods, or dismissing the good things. I'm not saying You do this, but a lot of people do, and that upsets me. Why, because I believe in fairness, and equally for all.
Again if they fired him tonight, I wouldn't shed a tear, and I would automatically root for whoever took his place.

I wrote a lot of music a long time ago (mid 90's through mid 00's)... for 2 different original bands and started a recording hobby when the DAW revolution started in the late 90's. Recorded several albums.... they had a grunge/punk vibe too them. Was heavily influenced by Alice in Chains, Faith No More, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd.

Now... I'm trying to get more "advanced" on bass. I've been taking TrueFire lessons, but honestly... intervals and scales bore me to death. I have more fun with Songsterr account with Bass Tabliture. That's how I learned how to play bass in the late 80's and early 90's.... Bass Tabs in the Guitar World and Guitar for Practicing Musician magazines which featured bass tab included with guitar tabliture. Wish those were still around. There's a lot of good stuff on YouTube these days too... for bass.

Here's my bass collection. Some of these go back as far as 2004... didn't happen overnight. Favorite basses are from the 80's era... Spector Euro Classic and Fender Duff McKagan Deluxe Precision.

I had an Alvarez 4-string bass with P/J pickup config like Spector and Fender Duff... it was a great bass. I sold it and regret it. I don't think Alvarez makes basses anymore.
