this isn't a bash tomlin post...but his message has become stale. he hires bad position coaches. when he does get a good one, they don't stay. they have had some absolute horrible drafts. tomlin and his position coaches are not good at developing players as well. i have to circle back to the horrible drafts thing and state that being horrible at developing players might have been a catalyst in some of the perceived bad draft picks. he is not good at clock management, but many coaches now seem to have that very same issue. he never seems to have his team properly prepared to face teams that they should beat fairly easily.

for years i felt tomlin was a good coach...which he wasn't bad earlier in his career. but his unwillingness to change or step out of his comfort zone over the last 5 or so years has really tarnished his reputation.

i will give him his due. he rarely loses his team and yes he has never had a losing season which is an absolute horrible way to rank a coach.

mediocre isn't good. it's like being in a round room and being told to find a corner. you just keep going around and around never making any progress.

i'd love to see tomlin hire some good positional coaches and coordinators and see what this front office can actually build. but i am not so sure a good positional coach or coordinator would actually want to come to the steelers because they have become the epitome of mediocre...not moving forward or even moving backward to start a pendulum swing to possibly move forward.

it pains me so to watch what this team has become seeing as i have been a fan for half a century...

i'm not saying fire tomlin, but this team absolutely needs some form of change because as they stand right now they are not going anywhere other than staying mediocre.

sorry for the book, i just needed to vent a little.

I believe Tomlin just doesn't want to deal with players anymore.

And, Khan is a terrible, terrible judge of Talent.

I have been so Disappointed in Arthur Smith this year. If he is released by the Steelers I hope to read somewhere what went wrong; did Mike Tomlin make his offense this conservative. After the Browns game you have to wonder what the hell Arthur Smith was doing!

We need a new HC, coaching staff and a new franchise Qb. They should all be brought in as a changing of the guard.

Not impressed with how wr was handled by management. Maybe they need to replace khan too.

Arthur Smith's offense requires a strong run game. We made some strides this year, it was pretty bad last year, but we still have a ways to go in order to have a strong run game.

But yeah, I think Tomlin is holding it back. Smith's offense can be more aggressive, we have seen it with his past teams.

I'd take mediocre in a heartbeat with the MLB team the city has but I do hold the Steelers to a higher standard.

I golf with a couple NY Giant fans. They are always telling me to quit my b!tching about the Steelers. 6-11 / 3-14 / 3-14 (4-13) last 3 seasons. In the SB era Steelers never had a terrible stretch like that.

TBH I'd take a stretch like that if we got our crap together for future.

Frazier started and excelled as a Center in his rookie year.
McCormick held his own in the NFL from a lower college division in his rookie year and is making more progress this year.
James Pierre has developed from stealing game checks to being sad when he leaves in FA.
Most NFL teams thought Herbig could not stick on the edge in the pros.
Most NFL draft pundits thought Sawyer would struggle in the NFL.
Benton is still wildly inconsistent but he is twice the DL player he was in college (gonna have to trust me here).
Pick a WR. Only Juju and Sanders had any success outside of Steelers.
If Banner hadn't go hurt he was in line for a massive payday as a LT after he was left on the side of the road as a total draft bust by previous team.
    AV.
    Ramon Foster.
    Dan Moore.
    Foote
    McFadden

Dotson. Green. Burns. Sean Davis. Those are the recent busts.

This is all you need to know about Omar Khan's drafting to this point.

For the third consecutive year, Steelers retain entire draft class under Omar Khan. This article was in August and shows how strong the draft classes have been under Khan.

    https://steelersdepot.com/2025/08/f...rs-retain-entire-draft-class-under-omar-khan/

The GM and scouting department are getting it done. Tons of great young talent. Tomlin has been given a boatload of talent since Khan took over.

Dotson wasn't a bust. He is an All-Pro with the Rams after Tomlin wouldn't put him on the field. This after trading him away for nothing.

Pickens is going to the Pro Bowl and is now considered the best WR on the Cowboys after being traded for next to nothing for a #1 WR.

Kaleb Johnson not even remotely reminding anyone of Derrick Henry was a let down. I like Gainwell & Warren... But there were many times where I was wondering why Warren was not in more.

It’s not so much who they drafted, it’s who they didn’t. Go back and review the rounds after each pick above.

For instance TF, solid tackle but the pick of the litter at CB was still on the board. They could have went CB Round 1. Then they could have drafted his teammate Risegarten in the 2nd round, who was a RT at Washington.

The only thing that matters is who they drafted and seeing how the players turned out.

If you want to compile a list of who you think they should have drafted, knock yourself out. There isn't a team or draft pick from any year that doesn't have a better player drafted after they picked. Come on man.

I am making a point. Yes it happens all the time, taking Edmunds with Lamar and Chubb on the board. Taking Claypool with Dobbs and Hurts sitting there. This goes on. Colbert and Omar aren’t infallible. Not even close.

Nobody is infallible. That's the real point. If you follow the draft closely, you know how rare it is to have an entire draft stick with a team and make a roster. His draft has done it three years in a row. That is killing it in the draft.

I hope he keeps things going just the way he has to this point. Most teams are lucky to get a couple of players that turn into something each draft. Khan has been drafting players that are able to immediately make the roster with many contributing immediately.

There is really nothing to criticize about his drafts at this point. He is filling a roster with quality talent. Drafting, signing, or trading for a quarterback that can be a quality starter will be the next big mission.

    Disagree about Kahn
    First two drafts pretty good
    Also too early to judge
    He isn’t the problem
Only part, some think Kahn signs without Magic Mike’s approval
    Which is bs
Problem is and will remain with the common denominator
