Even if this team manages to win against the Ravens, do they really have a GOOD chance to get past the 1st round?

My expectations for this team were mediocre at best this year, given our 42 yr. old QB. Hate to be Debbie Downer, but seems another quick exit is inevitable....and I'm a glass full kind of guy.

Beating the Ravens and sending them to the offseason would be some consolation.

If the Ravens lose to our decimated team next week then Harbaugh should be fired while he's leaving the field.

Funny, Harbaugh, like Tomlin has had his fair share of disappointing game outcomes, especially head to head.

One things for sure, the majority of times when these two clubs meet, you're in for a game.

Really, the losing coach should be shown the door.

No way we are beating any of those elite teams this year if we win Sunday. Just another mediocre season as usual, you know it will always be this way with Tomlin. Best thing to happen would be to loose and make some serious changes. If only we could have a loosing season!!! That might turn the tide, but of course not.

Look at how the Patriots did it, do badly for a couple years, then boom, they are back yet again, those dirty bastards.

I don't see how they can decide to fire him after going to Green Bay without Lamar and destroying the Packers, scoring 41, in high pressure situation. That's a heck of a coaching job.

Because with the best roster in the NFL they will finish with a losing 8-9 record if we beat them on Sunday night. Now if they beat us and then make a playoff run then Harbaugh will be safe.

I laugh when I read the 'every season is all out none for me' posts. I was well aware this pre season that this was not going to be a championship level season. You can still build it up and talk it up with other fans though. You still go into each week to root for your team and just enjoy the game for the game.

This week will be no different for me. The Steelers and the Ravens play for the division and the 4th seed in the playoffs. Winner take all, loser go home. This is what makes this game fun. Why would you wish for anything else?

If we win, next game up is hosting the Texans. That's a taller task than the Ravens this season, IMO. I want us to beat the Ravens this week, but I am not looking forward to what I expect to happen the next week. I would still pick us to win though.

They did not intend to do that. They stepped on a bunch of rakes Foghorn Leghorn style and stumbled ass backwards into a franchise savior potentially with Maye. Take Maye away and give them Aaron Rodgers and that is a bad football team.

John Harbaugh has made one SB appearance and that was to play his brother. He's had one of the better rosters consistently his entire career. He has a2-time NFL MVP QB. Was it good coaching that won the game in GB? Or... was it, give Derek Henry the damn ball? Talk about getting less with more.

There's a strong possibility that the Steelers would face the Texans, whether they had blown out the Browns yesterday or beat the Ravens in week 18.

I believe you and I agree on this...but I am not sure. So apologies if this is not where your post was going.

If you measure Tomlin against the expectations of fans that are based on intangible benchmarks, he is found wanting.

If you measure Tomlin against benchmarks based on the performance of his peers in comparable situations, he breaks even at worst and exceeds them in most cases.

Yes, I'd rather play in the playoff game and see if the team can get over the hump than watch them implode the last two weeks and miss.

Even if it is another quick exit, there's still the chance that Rodgers would be able to give us a big game and win one for us, or that our defense has actually turned a corner and will play well enough for us to have a good shot at winning... Just because we have no faith in Tomlin in the playoffs (justifiably so), doesn't mean that we shouldn't want to see us take another shot at it. Idk, that's just me.

I think the result would be the exact same as far as the playoffs go, yes.

    I agree with this.

I think it was from a Michael Crichton epilogue of one of his books. He talks about how organizations need a purge and restructure every 20 years. It doesn't matter what type of organization... elected, charity, commercial, whatever.... the hierarchy needs to be turned over every 20 years or else it becomes corrupted and ceases to hold to its original set of values.

I can get on board with the idea of replacing the HC because he's been here so long he's become above reproach. But to just blanket statement that he can't coach and is terrible at his job, is not something I can get on board with.

I would very much like to see this team of Tomlin, Khan, and Weidl put 5 drafts together and see what things look like at that point. We are 3 drafts in already. I'll probably have to settle for just the one more.

Come tell me what they are in a few years. Every year there are teams to do this.
Example: Washington 12 -5 last year, 4-12 this year. Vikings last year 14-3, this year 8-8. We see this every year.
Hell I get tired of saying this, but sometimes it need repeated. Turning a team around is easy, keeping that team pointed in the right direction is hard.

I actually hope they fire him. I can't wait to see Lamar Jackson with a total change of football philosophy, and maybe a waste of the last two drafts. Remember when the Ravens fans, and media said it was Greg Roman holding them back with his outdated play calling, and they should stop running the ball so much. LoL
Then after many playoff losses they scream, we don't run the ball enough. LoL. Showing the majority of fans don't know what they are talking about, and when they get what they want, then they actually don't want it. So yeah I hope they fire Harbaugh. It will be a boon to us. By the way Greg Roman is doing fine with the Chargers as their OC.

There is definitely a boom and bust cycle. Those are classic example of a team being really close, but finishing in third or fourth place. Then the pieces come together and they jump to first place. Then they play a harder schedule and crash back to earth. The NFL is basically set up to have this happen. In a sense, the owner and the league want this to happen. The league is actively hindering dynasty formation.

I agree fully. I have little confidence that the team will be able to get past yesterday’s flop and find a way past a very motivated Ravens team, but I’ll be there screaming for it Sunday night all the same (by “there” I mean in front of the TV). Teams do pull off upsets in the playoffs. It’s not unheard of, but pulling off the upset necessitates having a strong game plan and ensuring its execution via good practice and confirmation that every single player understands and is prepared to execute his own role. You don’t just go in and do what you do. You have to find weaknesses and exploit them.

I definitely like the direction the draft priorities are going. Building from the inside out. No matter what direction you go at the skill positions or defensive alignment, good OL and DL will be necessary.
