Another prep fail, sleepwalked through the 1st quarter which hilariously leed to an insurmountable 10 pts.

IIRC they scored 10 on their first 2 drives and that was enough to win the game.

I am saying things usually happen for a reason.

You seem to be implying the reason is bad play calling.

I am offering the alternative reason that PF is not getting his number called for a reason. I do not currently know what that reason is.

I am suspicious that a OC that is infatuated with TEs and a QB that has traditionally loved throwing to TEs both fail to look at PF with love in their hearts.

    Was it a prep fail?

On the TD throw, the Steelers had Sanders baited into throwing into the wrong coverage. Duggar was on his way to either separate the TE and the ball at the catch point or make an INT. Sanders was saved because he threw a duck several yards short and behind the intended receiver.

If that ball is thrown to the spot the play was called for, the Steelers have Sanders dead to rights.

I'm not having a go at Bozwell either but regardless of what he's meant to this team, he's still one of the players on the list who made a big mistake in this particular game. We all know how crucial special teams are in close divisional games. He certainly isn't the reason for the loss but he likely could have been the reason had they won.

Fair enough, but how did the team come out?

They did nothing for 3 1/2 quarters, but still won the game comfortably. Sanders barring two drives was awful. This was a 3-12 team with failing rookie QB leading them.

Even when the Browns handed them opportunities and they did over and over again, they still failed to take advantage and made stupid calls like the 4th and 1...

I just can't blame Boswell, he's carried this team for years. It was a longish FG it not great conditions, so yes, he takes his share today, but his fail is a drop in the ocean.

Sure. The Steelers lost and that sucks.

My initial reaction was that it was not a coaching failure. I am willing to see and hear more about what happened on offense. But the defense balled out and Sanders' first half completions were largely kinda fluky.

The Steelers offense was the issue. Was it play calling and not running it enough? Was it Rodgers returning to his hesitant ways from earlier in the season and not risking throws to anything besides wide open receivers? Was it MVS and Theilen being washed up and getting dominated by superior talent at CB? Was it MVS and Rodgers not making the same sight adjustments numerous times? Was it Rodgers not throwing to PF more?

Some of those questions could be answered by decisions mandated by coaches. Most of them look like talent and execution problems by the QB and receivers. My initial reaction while watching the game was that Rodgers and the receivers were not good enough. For instance, I think there is a chance that a better throw hits Miller in the endzone -- instead Rodgers appeared to have missed out of bounds by three yards. Maybe Miller was late on the route and timing was off? I dunno.

That pretty much sums things up. It's not just one thing, it's the collective. Ownership keeps hanging on to Tomlin. Khan trades one head case WR1 for another, and appears to think three WR4s = one WR2, and is now seeing the effect that has when you lose your WR1 toward the end of the season for the second year in a row. Tomlin keeps trotting out extremely conservative game plans and talks about 'going back to the lab' and still 'having time to write our story.'

It's time to get a new author.

Good point about franchise QB. I went and checked and there are not many SB winners without one which surprised me.
Trent Dilfer but that D was a generational defense as much as I hated them.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, the WR'S aren't good enouigh even with DK, but the playcalling has been suspect for years, it's too risk averse in the passing game, and has been for years, too many throws behind the LOS for years, ignoring the middle of the field for years, there's stats that prove this over mnay QB's. As for WR's that's been an organizational fail for several years, failing to get a WR2.

Rodgers was clearly determined to go MVS or bust.

I think it's mix between coaching, talent, execution, play-calling and being too conservative on offense, Gainwell has been our best weapon this year, 10 touches. There's a ton of blame to go round - o-line hasn't been good sicne the Pouncy, DD Foster, Villa era, that's orgnaizational, and I think coaching.

Does this team develop players well enough? I don't think so.

It's been a perfectr storm on offense for years the demise of the Killer B's, it's just not been good enough, and on the other side there's been too many horrendous showings by the defense, punctuated by some exceelent performances...everything is just wildly inconsistent.

We need change, we're not going to win a SB as we are.

I think that says it all. Probably the 2nd worst team in the NFL over that span, definitely bottom 3.

It was clearly a coaching issue. You don't come out in the first 3 drives of the most important game of the year and let Shedeur freaking Sanders and the 3-12 Browns walk us down the field for 10 easy points with a Steeler 3 and out sandwiched in there. That's been Tomlin's downfall in these big games. We get dog-walked on the scripted plays. We come out and get handled on both sides of the ball before figuring it out and making it competitive (usually). It's been this way since 2016.

Offensively we just called garbage on top of it. It was in the 4th quarter and Warren had 6ypc at that time with 10 total carries... we just can't let that happen. We ran it twice on 3rd and 5+ and got nothing (or went backwards), and threw a fade on 4th and less than a yard in the red zone. We marched it down the field trying to tie it (all in the middle of the field), then completely neglected the middle on 3 straight plays from the 6 and threw a 4th down fade to a WR that's played 3 weeks for us against a PB corner. We just failed with game planning. Our plan was trash out the gate and it was bad offensively.

If its a win and in, or win and go home... we suck. We get out classed in the coaching department every time. It's hard to argue that didn't happen here.

I think yet again, this shows that Tomlin has no feel for when to go for it and when to take what's given.

Fire Smith his play calls are a joke. Anymore throwing behind the line and flat passes and running on 4th and 1. This game was the game we should have easily won. I know DK didn't help either and Thelan didn't help much either. Very lazy play.

    It’s QB play.

Patriots WR are no better than Steelers. Maye elevates everyone. Rodgers can no longer do that.

Remember when Ben took WRs that were out of football a year later to an AFC championship game?
