Will Roman Wilson prove Tomlin wrong today?

Tomlin picks who starts and plays. Roman Wilson looked good in camp, and in the few games he played. Yet he hardly plays in games. He is getting his chance today not due to Tomlin acumen but due to injuries and one suspended " DK. " .

My opinion on the man is he has good hands, is both fast and quick and offers more than one route. He can be at least our 3rd receiver.

Let's see what he can do. Tomlin likes to say next man up. It's catchy. But in Roman's case, he is Tomlin's last man up.

By all accounts that I’ve read the issue with Wilson has been between the ears. A QB like Rodgers expects his guys to see the same defensive alignment/coverage that he sees, and be where he expects them to be. It’s not enough to have good physical talent, good hands and good physical effort if a guy runs himself into coverage vs. zone or fails to break the right direction vs. leverage when running a choice route. In my view it’s likely Rodgers that benched Wilson.

That's got to be it. He can't trust him to be where he reads him to be.

Doesn't matter that he's running open. If they're not on the same page it takes time to figure out if he can get the ball to him and play is usually over by then.

I wouldn't mind if "Roman" proved my thoughts of his abilities wrong.
Somehow, I kind of doubt it happens.

If Rodgers wanted a player that understands coverage, lined up where he needs to and does not sink the offense with pentailes, he would order Tomlin to pick up Thielen off the street long ago. He certainly can get open.

Do you have any examples of Wilson doing what you have heard of? I see none. Besides, Wilson has shown good + ability. Enough to live with a bone headed play every now and then.

Seems to me like Wilson's issues are above the neck.

Couldn't learn the playbook last season despite being off most of the year.

Doesn't seem to click with Rodgers, who really values WRs who see what he sees and get to where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there.

Hope he steps up today though.

Yep. Wilson would be the perfect WR to pair with Roethlisberger. A receiver that runs around after coverage breaks down. Rodgers gets rid of the ball in 2 seconds. He's not waiting for Roman to run around and find an open space after 3 or 4 seconds.

There's a youtube video showing how Wilson drifted from the 'red line' on a pass by Rodgers. It went incomplete because Rodgers threw it where Wilson should have been on the route. One example, but I am sure there are others. Also, don't forget that the coaches see these guys in practice. Maybe Roman has been awful in practice?

Also, it would have been silly to immediately find another WR before giving Wilson a legitimate chance to show what he has.

Now that Cook is the Left tackle, Rodgers has a little more time to throw and is less likey to get rid of the ball out of bounds or in the stands or take QB hits.

This can be seen in his last three games which resulted in good passing yardage. Heck two of the last three games were season highs in passing yardage and the other game was a very solid 224 yards passed.

Rodgers has a very quick release. He is basically a two read type of QB these days and makes up his mind quickly.

While Roman may lack the finer points of being a WR, he gets open as well as anyone one the team enough the size and the speed ( 4.39 40 which measures football speed and 4.07 suttle which maure change of direction / stop and go speed. Few are faster and his shuttle time is very rare. He is a rather strong player too.

Are we to assume he doesn't know how to run basic routes, the snap count on plays? That is garbage thinking.

No reason for AR to hold on to the ball with Metcalf every other potential receiver is standing near the line

I hope we run the ball down their throats all game long. Shut their offense down to 3 and outs all game long. I'm really not that petty about who helps get that done. At all.

Nope, Thielen will have the most productive day of the group. Something like 4 for 60.

Thielen was released by the Vikings on Dec. 1 and signed by the Steelers Dec. 2. Didn't exactly spend much time on the street.

Our two best man beater wide receivers are out. Mr darkness retreat has struggled against man coverage. Expect the browns to play a ton of man coverage. Running the. All isn’t going to be a walk in the park either. The browns defense is legit

It’s the same reason Antonio brown almost got cut in year two. Not knowing the playbook is a big freaking deal

I would say right now Aaron Rodgers is telling Tomlin what receivers to Play. Aaron knows who he wants on the field.

Theilen wasn't on the street. He was a viking most of the season. He was their backup plan while Addison was suspended. He saw minimal usage and once JA was back it fell to next to none. So Theilen asked to be released and the Vikings did where Pittsburgh claimed him off the waiver wire.

AR doesn’t have the patience for young WR’s at this point in his career.

Roman very well may be a bust. I think JJ McCarthy is also looking to be a bust too.

This doesn’t have anything to do with proving Tomlin wrong. This isn’t even about proving AR wrong. Its about Wilson showing he belongs.

I also believe Wilson fumbling when we were trying to burn clock didn’t help.
