I look at Heyward, and he's getting doubled, and I'm like two guys are getting doubled, and the rest are doing nothing.

 

You got a whole lot of the clap going on here. Pretty sure you can get some antibiotics to treat that, or at least that's what I heard.

Why is it Highsmith plays better when TJ is out??? That shows He is dogging it at times when TJ is out there. Like well, TJ will get it if I don't.

I have a hard time thinking anyone in the NFL other than George Pickett actually is dogging it on plays

This DL has looked very good the last 2 weeks
Looks like they are playing as a unit
Whether it is scheme or not depending on TJ to make plays
Also find it amazing, if TJ got 3 defenders on him, why in the blue moon no other player is making plays?

 

Anyone that disagrees just need to look at the only other time Highsmith play has been this high.
Surprise surprise.....2022 the only time Alex Highsmith has had double digit sacks in his entire career, is when TJ Watt was out for 7 games. Coincidence, I think not.

 

The million dollar question is
Why does Highsmith disappear when Watt is playing?
You would think that his numbers would go up since 3 guys are on Watt
Doesn’t quite make sense

 

Highsmith has been playing well this season especially against the run.

 

I can't figure it out. I watch how they are attacking the OL, is almost the same, and Heyward is still getting doubled a lot. All I can figure is Highsmith doesn't try as hard when Watt is out there. Like he's thinking, He's got it.
Again the last time Highsmith played this well is when Watt missed 7 games in 2022.

 

You do realize Highsmith goes against the LT which is usually the best pass blocker on a team .

 

Yes usually one , on one. Don't believe me, look it up. Watt goes against the RT, RB, TE, and sometimes RG. I've shown the pictures in a thread earlier in the year, and not only I , and @Blast Furnace have mentioned this....so did Collinsworth talk about it in one of our games. No NFL player gets as much attention as Watt.
Only player that gets even close the attention to Watt on our front 7 is Heyward.

 

Any idea why other top pass rushers are chipped so much less frequently? It’s not like Watt is that much better than guys in the DPOY conversation.

 

I would imagine it's because everyone knows Watt should actually be a 3 time DPOY.
It wasn't always that way for Watt, but nobody wants one guy to destroy their game plans. The problem with Watt compared to most of the pass rushers isn't just sacks. Have You seen the difference in forced fumbles, ints, and still playing the run between him , and the other pass rushers? He gives you all of it, most of the others give you one , or the other.

 

this is the whole point to the def. just do your job-- play hard every play.dont slack off..if everyone plays hard like Cam ---TJ or a few others..This team would destroy everyone.if injured or hurting don't play at all..100 percent always the whole game..Yes ive noticed Highsmith stepping it up with TJ out.DO IT ALWAYS...Be the best not mediocre

I think the question about Highsmith is valid but I also wonder if teams are attacking Watt’s side knowing he will rus himself out of a lot of plays.

 

There is something opponents have figured out about Watt. Or Watt truly has lost that extra edge he could bring to his game. His inability to play elsewhere on the DL makes it really tough to create uncertainty.
The other thing that has changed about the defense was written up by the Depot. The defensive line is dropping more into coverage rather than just straight up rushing the passer, occasionally sending a safety or ILB on a blitz. Again, creating uncertainty about who might be rushing from where. I wonder whether this is Austin's doing or Tomlin's? Hmmm...

 

I think it's a combo - after the safety (I believe) they panned to Tomlin on the sidelines, and he and Austin were all smiles and giving each other high fives - like "Hey, that worked!"

Hey, but I'm told constantly on this board that every team needs a genius OC as their new HC.

 

The hire of Brian Schottenheimer was very questionnable at the start.He was not the problem for the cowboys,their offense was elite but they had a poor defense with the former clueless head coach of the bears as HC and losing Parsons hurt the cowboys defense for this year
