I'm just saying that defending himself against the haters doesn't make him a bad guy.

I don't usually chime in on subjects like this but c'mon you have to be smarter than that. They should start putting in their contracts that they have to stay away from social media. I know ,i know freedom of speech ,but these guys get paid enough money that they should be able to be told to STFU. Like they say " it's better to keep quiet and let people think your stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

You give me one example of where I've "lost my cool" on here to the point that I deliberately try to belittle another person. I've never gotten on here and called anybody a loser no matter how po'd I might have been. Some people do cross the line, especially on social media, so if you can't handle it you're better off not being on it if you're a well known athlete, celebrity or whatever.

Geez, BF, I've never even called you a loser and I've lost my cool with you several times on here. ;)

He did apologize so I would say it's more than just him being a moron ya know? I didn't get to read his apology but I just saw the headline about it. I would say the front office probably took him to task over this pretty badly.

Well, that might be a stretch. A more accurate way to put it would be that a statement of apology was issued on Pouncey's behalf after consultation with the Steelers PR representatives and Pouncey's agent. :write:

Pouncey also likely got a small sample of how much dirt a couple of PI's can dig up in a few weeks time. ;)

Yeah he said "I apologize to anyone I might have offended by my actions". VERY rarely do I believe ANY celebrity "apology" and I figure most people feel that way. I just see it for what it is. They see that they've bit the hand that feeds them and they want to make amends. It's like Brad Paisley said "I'll get to cry to Barbara Walters when things don't go my way". Remember Jimmy Swaggart making his "confession" and crying and carrying on and then a few years later got busted for the same thing and then when asked about it said "it's none of your business"? I think a lot of celebs do things like this out of convenience and if Pouncey REALLY believes Hernandez is innocent then he shouldn't back down. I respect him even LESS for his wish-washiness if you really wanna get down to it. I think he's a moron for wearing the hat and I think he's a patronizing coward for apologizing if he genuinely feels in his heart that Hernandez is innocent. If that makes any sense to anyone.

That makes PERFECT sense to me, Rev... ;)
I have tried VERY hard to stay out of this whole debate, because of all the things I don`t know about the situation, and because of all the Zimmerman talk, on here lately...
Just ANOTHER example of the people of America, picking sides, and voicing opinions, about a situation, they were not involved in, and really have no idea what went down, other than what we have been told by the media...
I learned a LOOOONNGG time ago, that unless you were involved in a situation, firsthand, you can be pretty sure that the accounts you are getting of that situation are biased, and "spun", by both sides, to make their point of view, look best.

On a side note, I`m not sure what to think of another point that was brought up in this thread...
The whole "stand by your friend/teammate, even if they have done wrong"...

Reminds me of some interviews with Steeler players, after Taamuu, had his D.U.I., incident with the cops, and some others, where A Steeler player, came back to the team, after crossing paths with the law, for other reasons...

I get the "support your teammate, friend", thing...

But at some point, you also have to tell your friend/teammate...

"Dude, you just screwed up, big-time!!!"...

I have covered for friends in the past, and they have covered for me, when we have done reckless things, in our mis-spent youth, but none of those, rose to the level of MURDER!!!

Pouncey wearing that hat, was poor judgement, but certainly doesn`t make him a party to the crime, in my book.

I also agree, that some athletes would be better served, by avoiding social media, but, they`ve grown up with it, it`s part of their lives, so hopefully, someone more mature in their lives, could talk to them, about the repurcussions, of sharing every thought that pops into their young minds, with the rest of the world...

I dunno, I just have a hard time with some of the Steeler players(and probably every other team), saying ...
"We gotta support him, he`s a member of the team"...
That`s all well and good, but ya know what?...
When I screwed up, my Momma didn`t post bail for me, if it was my fault!
I took the consequenses, and learned from my mistakes!!!
    And that`s FAMILY!!!

    Just sayin...:hmmm:
    GO STEELERS!

I like ya Jack but I don't keep a log of your posts :lolol: And I've never unloaded on you so I certainly hope you haven't called me loser

Anyway, I never said you called anyone a loser, losing your cool just means getting angry. Point is, athletes are still human, to think they won't occasionally get angry with a fan is unrealistic and to say that because they can't keep their cool 100% of the time that they shouldn't be on social media is grossly unfair. I have no idea why you or anyone else would have a problem with someone defending themselves. I wish he would have chosen a more intelligent, adult comeback but lets not forget, he is only 23?

Does he do this on a regular basis or was it just that infamous night? Just curious.

The fighting with fans on Twitter I mean.

You said yourself it might be a good idea for Pouncey to get off social media. There are a bunch of ignorant people out there who would like nothing better than to get into a Twitter feud with somebody famous. They are looking for their 15 minutes of fame, or more accurately, infamy and are willing to play the provocateur to get it. You make a good point about his age. I guess when I was 23 I said some pretty stupid things too. I just didn't have Facebook or Twitter to rant on. Oh, and I wasn't famous. Or was I?

What's really immature and kinda goes along with what you said about him being only 23 was that he said "I'm rich" and "you're a loser" and it's almost like he's mistaking PROFESSIONAL success for PERSONAL success. Being "rich" doesn't make you a "winner". I would say conducting yourself with integrity and raising a good stable family striving every day to make yourself and OTHERS better people can make you as much of a "winner" as anything. People have asked me what gauge I will use to decide if I'm a "good parent" and I've always said that if my kids grow up and don't work high paying jobs but they live lives free of addiction and drug abuse and highly esteem the values that I also highly esteem. I'm just saying that a statement like that kinda might indicate that his priorities don't seem to be totally in order. But as you said he was 23.

Hey Jack does this sound familiar??? "When I was a child I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But when I became a man I put away childish things." It can happen to the best of us my friend. LOL.

Yeah but that's not the same as saying if he can't refrain from calling out fans that he doesn't belong on it, I just meant why subject himself to it but if he wants to be on it, that's his business. I wouldn't be, I don't even have twitter! Then again, I'm about twice is age :o

Well I, for one, consider myself REMARKABLY mature for a guy that collects comic books, plays video games, collects vintage action figures, has a Disney Vacation Club membership, has literally drawers full of comic book, game, and classic 80s cartoon shirts, and is wearing Ninja Turtle pajamas and a Mickey Mouse shirt as I type this very post while my Mario and OTHER Ninja Turtle pajamas are in there in the drawer. LOL! And now that I think about it do I really HAVE to be mature since I'm only 31 anyway???

How come nobody is putting the blame where it belongs. This is all the parents fault and I mean ALL OF IT! If Hernandez' parents would have held him more, if Pounceys would have used a switch more, if Mendy's parents would have taped his mouth shut or handcuffed him more, if Holmes' parents would have just talked to him and taught him to say "NO", If Ben's parents would have neutered him, If Wallace's parents would have sent him to church, if my parents wouldn't have locked me in the closet all those years...

So you are saying you are completely OK with players being stupid and supporting accused murderers.....as long as you don't have to know about it?

This whole thing is a non story as far as I am concerned.....Show up on Sunday...knock someone on their butt...get TD's...GET W's....GET RINGS! that's all I really care about. They can wear their Free AH hats....as long as I get to wear my SUPER BOWL CHAMPS hat.

Ron Cook, PG brings up an interesting story in todays PG.
HOW SINCERE ARE THESE APOLOGIES athletes/celebreties
are making? People, these mult million dollar athlete's believe they are way better than the average Joe. They have nothing in common with people like me trying to keep my head above water. Its a shame but it is true, you talkabout ego's these people will show where they really come from. Maurkice Pouncey included, he is a THUG!Tell me what has he gave back to the people of western PA since he has been here? Tell me what community organization he supports?

I agree, Jim. I also can't believe we aren't talking about the real evil in all of this - Roger Goodell. He has clearly done something that made something else happen that could in some way be related to what's going on here.

I don't know where you got that from what I said,of course I'm not OK with it. I'm just saying that these fools continue to embarrass themselves and more importantly the organizations that they play for and sign their checks. Character goes a long way to ensure a teams success. Pounces has claimed to want to be someone to step up and lead for this team, that looks pretty silly right about now.

i don't know about you guys but when something embarrassing or stupid happens with the players on this team ,it kind of makes it a little embarrassing to me as a fan and supporter of the team as well. Maybe it's just me?
