" DK Metcalf suspension voids $45M in guarantees, gives Steelers future financial out "

How does this affect our cap space?

I went to look that up then saw Watt's 2026 $42,000,000 cap hit and had to close out the page.

Depot Dave said there would be minimal benefit to cuting and voiding future guarantees.

    Looked quickly at otc.

Not clear he has any future guarantees. Maybe pro rated amount of the 5mm guarantee this season?

Maybe otc was already updated? I thought he got guaranteed salary in year 2 at signing.

My understanding is no cap changes unless he's cut. Salary would stay the same, just not guaranteed.

Since he's the only good WR on the team, my guess is we don't cut him this early in the contract.

I have not conversed with Dave Bryan here. I take it he is a " capologist " in addition to writing on Steeler Depot?

Anyway, I don't care who said what. What the heck was DK seeking out a fan and giving him " the business " during an NFL game?

Apparently he has diva issues. And Tomlin's dive control is not the best. More like the worst among head coaches. Brown, Bell, Pickens now DK. I could add Bryant, so OT that disrespected him and more, but take it you get the picture by now .

Joel: I'm starting a thread about DK and the cap implications of him trying to punch a fan.

Finds out almost nothing changes cap wise.

Also Joel: why are we even talking about the cap implications? Who even brought that up? Who cares?! DK bad. Tomlin worse.

@Thor@Thor or anyone else who understands contracts, can you explain this to me like I'm new to understanding contracts?

    Because I'm confused.

Also is it going to happen? If it does happen, do we get to kick him to the curb?

My understanding is that salary that used to be guaranteed isn't anymore.

That means if we did cut him, there would be less dead money, but there would still be whatever dead money is left from the signing bonus.

Functionally, it means we could cut him if we wanted to. Where we basically couldn't before (without having to pay him anyway).BBut again, there would still be dead money from the SB.

Practically, I think it makes no difference. The rest of our WRs are all bad. So we weren't going to cut him before. And we aren't going to cut him now.

It makes his deal more Steelers like, since he's not a franchise QB and never been an all pro. So now he has no guarantees past year 1 (which is what we normally try to do).

Maybe we trade him. Which we could have done before. The money not being guaranteed make make him easier to trade because the team on the other side wouldn't be bound by the guarantees. We'd still get dead money from the SB, so it's unlikely this happens so early in his contract.

So what probably happens is nothing. He keeps playing on the contract. And we don't cut or trade him.

The one thing I don't know about suspensions is whether or not the team gets a credit on the cap for the money DK isn't making.

Doesn't really matter because it's 500k. But it would roll forward I to next year if we get a credit.

Two games is too much. Idk, sometimes fans can be really vulgar, maybe the fan threw something at Dk, they’ve thrown crap like batteries before at Raider games. Yeah a player cant react anyway, so maybe one game and an additional fine.

I agree that it is too much, but there is no evidence that the fan threw anything or initiated contact. Metcalf lost his head during a game, something he has done many times before in his career, and this time he severely damaged his team's chances at making the playoffs.

I am happy that clause was in his contract. It makes this a bigger hit for him than it does for the team. His teammates and coaches don't deserve to be short-handed right now. The organization doesn't deserve it. The fans don't deserve it. Unfortunately, the only way the contract clause actually hurts Metcalf is if the Steelers cut him. They have put themselves in a position where they can't afford to do that.

I can't name a team that hasn't had problems with Wrs, even this year. I suggest you look it up, if You don't believe me.

I'm just glad Swann and Stallworth missed the diva stage that WR's seem to have now.
