Glad we gave him only wish he’d quit being stubborn and wear gloves that match the opponent’s colors, particularly their jersey. Not rocket science.

You know, I have mentioned this to CBs , and others many times. Unless they make you wear a certain color, I would always wear what was closest to the opponents jersey.
Although they could be like me, and are superstitious.

I don't care about his 1 or 2 penalties he can have in a game if he continue to be great for the rest of the time!

Apparently you do not comprehend the actual cost of his penalties

Rhetorical question but why are there so many people on this board who do not understand the basics of a football game

I have read where coaches will make db's wear boxing gloves in practice that are to grabby.

    I’m seeing 6.

Even at 8 though, still cut them in half from last season. He’d have to have a real bad three game stretch to not show major improvement from last season.

I dont care anyway, he shuts down receivers.

For what it’s worth I got my 8 here:

    https://www.nflpenalties.com/player/j-porter-pittsburgh-steelers?year=2025

Now let me ask you if he had 3 fumbles and lost the ball as a turnover would that affect your opinion

Thats funny, same site I was using but on this page. I didnt have the 2 declined in the total I saw.

Not sure what you are asking though. I don’t think you mean causing fumbles because that would obviously be a good thing.

I thought you might ask ;)

My point is 3 of those penalties were on third down

Those penalties gave the other team the ball with a nice clean first down to start with

If he does not get the penalty the Steelers get the ball on a punt for a nice clean first down

That is no different than a fumble it’s still in essence a turnover

If you toss in the yards and the new set of downs it potentially also includes points for the other team

There is a lot more to his penalties than just the yards

Ah gotcha. Cant eliminate penalties completely, it’s more important to me if you can shut a receiver down.

    Completely no

But improvement and shutting down are not mutually exclusive

As you said he is improving

Do we know what the results of those 3 plays could have been if he hadn’t been as physical? Sometimes a defensive holding or DPI prevents a bigger play. Also, if he played less aggressively how many more 3rd down conversions would he give up? I can handle a handful of penalties if they’re combined with otherwise effective defense.

If You use this logic my friend, then there are no good CBs in the NFL.
So then we would have to go into comparison of what is there , and still JPJ would be in the top part of that bunch. So how ever we look at it . He's a pretty good CB that is only in his 3rd year.

It's hard to argue with that, good job JPJ.

Look at Deonte Banks (NYG) taken 24th overall - total disaster bust, and not just this year, he's been awful from the moment he was drafted.
