Ok, there’s so much more. The only thing our offense did all day was a 39 yard TD drive after a Buffalo fumble. Here are the Steelers’ “drives”
    6 plays, 12 yards
    3 plays, 6 yards
    5 plays, 13 yards
6 plays, 39 yards (the short field TD drive)
    2 plays, 17 yards
1 play, -9 yards (the fumble TD)
    4 plays, 18 yards
    3 plays, 9 yards
10 plays, 57 yards (after falling behind 23-7)
    3 plays, 3 yards

    First downs 26-10
    Yards 372-166
    Rushing yards 249-58
    Turnovers were even at 2-2

Yes, the turnovers were killers (and one of the Bills turnovers gave the Steelers a short TD drive (shorter than the Bills 56 yard drive after Mason’s int). The differential in points off turnovers was only 7 points and we lost by 19.

The core reason for the loss was that the Steelers were completely dominated in the trenches. Even without the Rodgers fumble, I don’t see how we could have won that game with that mismatch.

Great breakdown, but you are discounting Rodgers injury.
I personally wouldn't mind seeing them again at home in the playoffs.

I wouldn’t mind seeing anyone at home during the playoffs, but I’d prefer the Chargers. I don’t know how likely it is that we could get Jacksonville, but I’d prefer them too. I see a probability of well under 50% of beating Buffalo.

Yep, I remember you specifically saying that in the @steel machine@steel machine thread predicting the playoff teams before the season started.

A detailed breakdown about the whole scenario and in my opinion the best post in that entire thread. Bravo Bravo

    thank you

they were far from anything great last year.

REFS got them there and then they were CLEARLY EXPOSED in the SB

I wish the BEST for Pat - I like him and hope he heals and recovers. I wish nothing but GOOD RIDDANCE for Kelce - C-YA!!!!

Do we trust that the Steelers have solved their run defense problem? Or was that a mirage?

Lol.....nope. if they can put two back-to-back games together that are good, then maybe they're moving in the right direction. But until that time, it seems like they fix something this week and next week something else is broke.

One thing is certain... Steelers will not be able to run the ball or stop the run vs Lions. If Campbell is smart, he should run 60% of the time, throw 40%.

Talking heads say it's the Steelers' pass defense that will fail them in the game. But the Steelers pass defense has actually been much improved in the last month (well maybe because teams are running all over them... :icon cry:)

    AMEN!

Nothing has changed. Big whoop, beat a limping Lamar J and a laughinstock Dolphins team at home. Wow, impressed.

They need to win a playoff game and in a way that suggest they are the better team (not a fluke of bad calls and opponent butt fumble or something).

The saving grace for Tomlin is the AFC is a train wreck this year. THIS could be the year to make a run, with the better teams (years past) struggling and the early surprises now face-planting.

Depending on how the playoff grid plays out, the Steelers might be able to win two games and still not look like much of a team.

The AFC is pretty bad this year...this is Tomlin's last chance to fluke into an AFC championship game. Bills D struggling, Jaguars better, but hardly an imposing team, Colts QB issues, Texans D legit, but the O is unpredictable week to week...the Patriots, not sold on them either, a VERY, VERY, VERY weak division has lead to their record being far better than their team.

If the Steelers get bounced convincingly, it has to be the last straw for Tomlin...has to. Rooney has to move on (he won't he's a spineless coward, risk-averse).

it is POSSIBLE - he could fluke into it....

it is a WEAK YEAR, that is for sure

but BUFF kicked our ASSES 3 weeks ago.....we are not ready.......our D has gotten GASHED by the run MANY TIMES this year.....I think it is coming week 1 in the playoffs.......

ROONEY SUCKS - don't ever forget that.........Tomlin will be here in perpetuity.....

Do You know how many teams would not be in the SB, if they didn't beat the teams that beat them in the regular season, later in the playoffs?? More than You can imagine, including the Steelers.

I guess in a generous definition of the word "elite", those would be considered elite teams. Elite, but not true dominant.

It`s more like there are elite A and elite B teams out there. Elite A to me is a team is so good you should/can get to the Conference Championship Game, such as when the Chiefs were on a roll a few years back. A clearly dominant contender back then.

Would rank Broncos, Bills and Pats as elite A in today`s somewhat watered down NFL. The others you mentioned B. The Bills got some strong momentum and recently have risen to elite A. Maybe they get to the Super Bowl.

The NFC has the Hawks and Rams I rank elite A. What a heck of a game they just had. I`m glad I turned in just in time to see last 3 minutes of regulation and OT. Probably one of those two makes the Super Bowl and the AFC survivor might take a beat down.

49ers would, hands down, be the best team in the NFL if it weren't for so many injuries on the defensive side of the ball. They have the best coaching staff in the NFL and it's not even close. To win as many games as they have this year without the regular starters is impressive as hell.

I'm not sure I could put the Pats in that high yet. They have only beaten one team over 500 this year, and that team turned around, and beat them the next meeting. I just can't put that as elite, even B. If they lose to the Ravens, I will double down on that.
