By the by guys. I just checked the schedule because I am going to be in DC from August 27 through the Morning of September, 1. Means I hope I find the Steeler game on the radio driving back.

If anyone here was ever in the Third Battalion Fourth Marines. I am attending the reunion of them at that time Here is a link for any 3/4 Marines out there. Most of the guys who come are Vietnam Vets BUT, we are getting more Iraq and Afghanistan vets. Us Vietnam guys will all be dead soon and it is up to the younger Marines to carry on. Also 3/4 is being deactivated soon so this website will be all that is left of us. http://reunionpro.com/sponsors/third-battalion-fourth-marines. BTW they deactivated us once before. But the deification once again hit the rotating Oscillator
and they activated us again. All 3/4 Marines will be welcome.

Sorry TTF when I started I figured I would let guys from that unit know. My fingers wouldn't stop

EDIT... first game is September 8. I saw 1 and thought that was the date. 1 is for 1st game on the 8th. Whew. I can eat my free breakfast before leaving DC

I have given Ben a free pass for most of his career because of this game. He was the true MVP.
Your free passes are expiring with me, time to find the magic again Ben. We need you now
    more than ever.

Man people around here are spoiled!

You make it sound like that's all Ben has ever done for us. Fans of other teams love to point to how bad he was in Superbowl XL, and completely disregard the fact that he carried us to that game. Teams wanted to stack the box and force a 2nd year QB to beat them and he did.

The game against Indy was one I'll never forget because Ben coming out hot to start (and kudos to Cowher for probably going outside his comfort zone in the gameplan) was what won us that game. Manning got more and more in rhythm as the game progressed and if that game is 5 quarters we lose... but Ben put him in too big a hole... Not to mention "the tackle."

Ben is still a GREAT quarterback, but he's had no help the past couple of seasons, mostly from his OL. He's never going to "find the magic" when the entire team is on his back, and he's trying to carry them with ankle, shoulder, and everything else injuries.

Get him a running game to take some heat off, and watch out.

Agree with this 100%. It's pretty simple, healthy Ben we win, injured Ben we lose. Ben's the toughest QB in the league but when he tries to play through injuries like last year and his ankle the year before, he's not nearly as effective.

I agree that we NEED a healthy and effective Ben in order to win. BUT...we do have to admit guys that Ben has either sucked wind or has been mediocre in two of the three Super Bowls he's played in. It is correct that he's the guy, as much as any other on the team, that got us to those Super Bowls but he hasn't particularly played well in two of them. Against the Seahawks, he was terrible. Of course there are photos floating around out there that gives a pretty good indication why he was terrible. He was part-ay-ing big time that week. Against the Cards, he was magical on that last drive and played pretty well otherwise. Against the Pack, he threw a couple of picks which really hurt us and couldn't get anything going at the end of the game. I know Ben's a great competitor and I believe he would tell you that his Super Bowl performances, at least two of them, up to this point are not what he expects out of himself and he's yearning to go back and prove himself in the BIG GAME. I hope he gets his opportunity but there are no guarantees. When Marino lost to the Niners everyone was saying that Dan the Man would be back to many Super Bowls. He never played in another.

Disagree on SB assessment, Seattle game was bad (even know he made some big time plays when he needed too) but overall was bad. Arizona he should have been MVP, his whole game was great with possibly the best winning drive and TD pass in SB history. He didn't play bad in the Packers game either, his one interception his arm was hit and was driving them down the field for a go ahead score when Mendy coughed it up. As for Marino, he never got back because management never put the pieces around him to do so, the Steelers do a better job at that.

Wha?! That's the first time I've heard this. Link?

As for the rest... I thought Ben played very well in the Cards Superbowl. He should've been named MVP. If not for a pick that wasn't on him, he would've been. Santonio got credit for the big play, but that throw was as impressive as that catch.

The Packers Superbowl there were obviously problems... but GB scored 31. Asking Ben to put up 35 on that defense is a lot. I will say this of Ben, he's just not really the type of QB that's going to pick apart a defense and put up 35 points per game. He's more Favre or McNair than Brady or Manning.

But he's still special. He has whatever that "it" factor is that makes a guy step up when the game is on the line more often than not. Take that "it" factor away from Ben and he's probably more Romo than Favre... It's a fine line... but I'd take Ben in our offense over probably any QB of his generation.

    Here's the link:
    http://drunkathlete.com/2008/09/07/ben-roethlisberger-partying-like-a-champion/

Don't get me wrong, there are very few QBs of this generation that I would even consider trading Ben for (Aaron Rodgers would come closest), but we can't gloss over the fact that his Super Bowl performances, other than the Cards game, have been less than memorable. I'm sure Ben would tell you that and knowing the kind of competitor that he is I'm sure he's raring to get back in the Super Bowl saddle. Hope that happens THIS YEAR!

Yeah I know, I knew it wasn't accurate when he said it, and not sure how you got that was from SB week in Detroit, Jack, nothing anywhere in there says that.

You guys can believe what you want, but these pictures are from the SB week in Detroit. I remember seeing them at the time and thinking what an idiot. Doesn't he realize there is a big game coming up? Don't you guys remember what Ben looked like when he was at Miami? Skinny, crew-cut, clean cut?

Positively absolutely not from SB week. The SB against GB he caught some flak for being in a piano bar with a couple of teammates that got all blown out of proportion like usual. But these pics here aren't from the Seattle SB.

Positively, absolutely IS from the Detroit Super Bowl! You can believe what you want. How can you make a definitive statement like that without proof? Prove it's not from the Seattle Super Bowl. I told you, BF, I remember these pictures being released the week of the Seatle Super Bowl.

Fact is Jack...there is NO way you can say that they are absolutely from the SB. Nor can you definitively say that without proof. You introduced it into this thread, but haven't given any proof to prove your claim. I don't see how you can make a claim without proof, but insist others disprove you. You'll be searching google for a long, long time because there isn't any. The original publishers of those pictures never knew when they were taken. ;-)

I think everyone's wrong. I think they were after college, but before the SB. :)

The fact is, TTF, I can say definitively that I know that the first time I saw these pictures was when the Steelers were in Detroit getting ready to play Seattle in the Super Bowl. If you look at Ben's appearance (beard, hair) in that game and his appearance in those pictures, they look remarkably similar. I don't know, maybe those pictures were taken in Indianapolis or Denver during the playoff run. But when they were released at the time they were said to have been taken in Detroit as the Steelers were preparing to play Seattle in Super Bowl XL.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that Ben looked exactly the same in the pictures as he looked at the Super Bowl, with the beard and the hair.

Maybe these pictures were taken during the playoff run.

Maybe this is an impostor, and not Ben Roethlisberger at all.

Maybe someone decided to photo shop Ben into these party photos to sully his choir boy reputation.

    Maybe...

From what I can see, you may be right (sort of). From what I can find after a (very) quick search... The EARLIEST that I see the photos showing up us January 31st, 2006.

Still though, that's a full week before the game. Even if those were taken and up on the internet in 1 day... Criticizing a kid for partying a full week in advance of the game is just stupid. They get a week off in between the AFCC and the Superbowl. For all we know those might have been taken the night after the AFCC... If you think A LOT of players aren't out celebrating something like that you're crazy.

If it were like the night or two before, sure, get out your pitchforks. But a week? Give me a break.

Nope, they are just aggregators. :smiley1:
The beard is similar, but not identical. You say it was from the week of the super bowl...what date Jack? Fact is, the original publisher does not know when or where they were taken.

Your original claim was that these photos were taken the week of the super bowl, and that they were responsible for his poor performance. That's not true, nor is it provable.

The first publishing of these photos was by Deadspin on 1/31/06. They were anonymously emailed to them, and they had no idea when or where they were taken. I can't comment on the Straw Man stuff, but you may be right that these were from a couple weeks before the Super Bowl, or even earlier during the playoff run or perhaps earlier than that. Impossible to say.

I'm not criticizing anyone, SBD. If Ben wants to party, have at it. He was an adult at that time and was able to do what he wanted. I'm simply suggesting that Ben could have had his mind on other things that week rather than playing in the Super Bowl. I can't get inside Ben's head and read his mind, but he stunk it up big time in that game and I personally believe his mindset in the days leading up to the game may have been the reason why.

I won't argue that I can't prove this evidentially, but the circumstantial evidence is certainly there. I'm not an attorney and the last time I checked this MB was not a court of law. Based on what I can google now AND what I remember seeing back in 2006, these photos were alleged to have been of Ben in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. This is speculation again but I believe this to be a Super Bowl type party atmosphere and not an AFCDG or AFCCG kind of party atmosphere. But that's just silly ol' me speculating again. And you're right about the beard not being identical, I think the 4th whisker below his left cheekbone is 1/2 inch longer in the Super Bowl game pictures than they were in the party pictures. ;)
