How often do teams benefit via draft picks from a coach leaving? It’s rare.

Most important thing would be that he is gone, if they can trade him all the better.

"Externally, many feel like the seat has to be hot on Tomlin. But sources say that is not the case internally. 'He doesn't pay attention to it. It's been this way since he got [to Pittsburgh],' said a source. 'He remains focused on winning and doesn't let the noise affect him.' A Steelers head coach hasn't been fired since 1941, and all indications are it won't be happening at the end of this season either. As it stands today, there's a good likelihood Tomlin is back coaching the Steelers in 2026."

He should be but I doubt it will happen. Would love for them to come to an agreement, part ways and start fresh for the draft in Pittsburgh.

But the draft in Pittsburgh is also why it probably won’t happen. It would dominate the whole draft coverage. It would be great television though.

If they decline his option, is he going to want to coach in 2026 on a one year deal? Should we allow him to be heavily involved in the offseason for a team that he isn't going to be coaching past the 2026 season? Declining his option and having him coach in 2026 would be super dumb. Maybe declining his option and giving him no say in the coordinators is enough to make him want to resign (or be traded)... We should let him know asap our decision on his option so it gives the team the best options to move forward.

The team option in 2027 change things....I agree the steelers will not fire Tomlin but it could be similar to what the seahawks did with Carroll or the pats with Belichick

    Interesting.

I thought it was 2 more years AND then an option for the 3rd.

I agree that I can't see us firing him. But I also don't see us picking up this option (I assume the $$$ guaranteed once the option is exercised) if we don't make the playoffs this year (which almost certainly means winning the division).

This also makes it sound like the option is at the team's discretion. I believe in the last contract, the option was based on results. So that if we won X% of games, the option was automatically exercised. Interesting that they changed that.

Also wish that the terms of these deals was as transparent as player contracts. But since there's no cap on coaching salaries, I guess there's no reason to publish the info.

I can still see him wanting out at the end of this year, if we keep losing and the boos continue.

The fans have to show out the final home games of the season with the "fire Tomlin" chants. Can't let that be a one time thing.

It would be so incredibly foolish to let Tomlin be involved with this upcoming draft if they dont intend to keep him around or if Tomlin voices his desire to call it quits soon.

They have such a golden opportunity to kick off a new regime with the draft in Pittsburgh. A fan base that has been largely depleted of hope would be super charged with excitement about the future.

Rooney, please for the love of God be smart about this.
