This is why it's not worth getting excited about this team until we're able to draft a young QB who ends up being at least average.

Which could be a long, long time from now.

I like that we're OK churning QBs on the cheap while we don't have an option of young franchise guys. But this is pretty close to the ceiling for that.

Good news is that (like Russ), this is a one year experiment and can be easily terminated.

Both started out hot, too and then fizzled.

I don't know about that. Sam Darnold was a free agent this year coming off his killer season last year in Minnesota.

Sam Darold's name was mixed around possible targets for the Steelers. But, like Wilson in 2024, the Steelers decided to go the cheap route and sign Aaron Rodgers. Sometimes I think Khan is just too much of a Penny Pencher when going after high quality players.

Aaron is making $13 million with his 6-6 team, while Darnold is making $33 per year with his 9-3 team.

The Steelers were also in full competition to trade for Matt Stafford. He was making $40M per season till the Rams extended him and now he's at $44M per season. There were several teams talking to the Rams at that time. Nobody can say exactly what the sticking point was that a trade didn't get made but Stafford would have been expensive. Even at 37. I don't think they were penny pinching by going after Stafford.

I don't think having Sam Darnold on this team would make all that much difference personally. Maybe better than this. So that we make the playoffs and draft low 20s instead of missing the playoffs and draft in the teens.

    Who knows though.

Its the system. Smiths system which may also be Tomlins system.

i dont want our next franchise Qb stepping into this mess. We need a new coach for a new Qb. Like Montana and Walsh, Noll and Bradshaw…

In this offense, where they minimally use the middle and have no legitimate deep threat, Brady would have fizzled too. I am starting to think maybe Pickett was not as bad as I initially thought. Maybe not… Pickett did have Pickens and Diontae who were much better than Metcalf and Austin. I am rooting for Steelers to lose so they can have a better draft pick.

Tomlin should step down. The game passed him by a long time ago. Why dont any steeler Qbs use the middle of the field? Its not them, its Tomlin.

Think he is saying Wilson with the Steelers last year after 11 games.

    I'll plop this here:

New ranking by The Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/68...1747&user_id=1db74a972e3f4bf130cddef2646310fb

Amazing.... after seeing Brady and NE at the top for two decades they are right back there again with a brand new QB.

    1. New England Patriots (11-2)
    Last week: 4
    Monday: Beat Giants 33-15
Best-case scenario: They fix their red zone offense
This is nitpicking after an easy win, but for New England to make a run in the postseason, the offense has to get more efficient inside the 20. The Pats struggled in that area against the Giants, scoring just one touchdown in five red zone possessions. If they pair their explosive offense with greater success deep inside enemy territory, look out.
    Up next: Bye
Drake Maye and the Patriots have regained the AFC's No. 1 seed

    20. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6)
    Last week: 18
    Sunday: Lost to Bills 26-7
    Best-case scenario: A hard reset
Is this unfair for a best-case scenario? Maybe. But even Steelers fans were booing “Renegade” on Sunday in a hard-to-watch performance. It just feels like they need a change. Is it the quarterback? Is it the coach? We’ll see this offseason.
Up next: at Ravens, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

Sadly, I think this is where the team was last year at this time. Ho hum, another season of treading water.

Tomlin has shown repeatedly he cannot develop Young QBs. All the more reason I am a bit more pessimistic about Will Howard's future. Dude can be a good starter I believe.... just not with Tomlin.

Tomlin is too risk adverse. That limits everything on Offe se. Due to that fact, no matter who is at QB, the results will be sub optimal at best to unwatchable at worst.

Maybe, just maybe it's the offensive scheme? Same OC both seasons.

Here's the play where Rodgers miss fires to Austin. Look at the wide-open MOF but not a single player running an inbreaking route. Every. Single. Receiver. Runs. Outside.

    Repeatedly?

We've only had one QB to develop since we drafted Ben. And Kenny hasn't been developed by any of the four teams he's played for. Because he isn't an NFL starter. Maybe not even a decent backup (which is what I thought he'd be after we traded him).

Not sure anyone else could have gotten more out of the likes of Landry Jones, Duck Hodges, Mason than we did. These guys were always going to be backups at best. It's why I hate drafting QBs with 3rd and 4th round picks. Those guys are all but guaranteed to be a wasted pick at draft spots where you can still get guys who contribute elsewhere.

Compare ARod's numbers for THIS season with Sam Darnold, CJ Stroud, or Daniel Jones stats for THIS season.

    Oh okay. Thanks
Seems silly to me. 2 different years huh?

I believe we would have a better record if Fields was playing with us this year with the packages OC Arthur "Jones" uses this year though.
