Totally disagree about Ray Lewis but the rest is pretty spot on.

Trent Dilfer overrated? Don't you have to be highly rated (or even rated, period) to be considered overrated? I've NEVER seen Trent Dilfer get any love anywhere from anyone.

In fact, I'd go as far to say that Trent Dilfer is UNDERRATED. He wasn't great, but he did enough and complimented that defense well enough to win a championship. Don't forget the Super Bowl was his last game and they let him go in favor of Elvis Grbac for the next season and promptly went 10-6 and were bounced from the playoffs in the divisional round.

Aside from Dilfer, who I also have never seen get a ton of credit, I agree with the whole overrated list, especially Ray Lewis (the one bit of credit did get was being the one to say, "I'm going to Disneyworld" after the Super Bowl win. It would have been Lewis, but that was back before the entire world forgot that he likely committed murder). This is the first time I've ever seen someone besides a fan say Lewis was overrated. About time.

I don't agree with most of the underrated list. Jamal Lewis has been forgotten somewhat, but at the time he got so much love I thought he was overrated. Similar to Terrell Davis that way. At the time Davis was playing, he was considered by most "experts" to be the best player in the league. I disagree with Ed Reed being underrated as well. I get the concept that a guy who gets tons of credit can still be underrated (I consider Barry Sanders one of the most underrated players ever), but it doesn't apply to Reed. He's a legitimate hall of famer, but he is closer to overrated than underrated. The fact that he's considered by most people to be better than Troy Polamalu (different positions aside) is enough to make him overrated. Similar thoughts with Ozzie Newsome. Not that he isn't great, but everybody on TV spends every free second they have kissing this guy's ass. WHO is underrating him? Hell, even when the dudes on TV aren't talking about Baltimore, if they need to give an example of a great way to draft, they go straight to Ozzie.

I agree with Boulware. That guy was a nightmare. He never seemed to get the credit he deserved.

So I kind of erased that whole list so it seems like Raven-bashing, but I'm sure there are Ravens around that are truly underrated. I just can't seem to think of any right now...

wow. i know as Steelers fans its easy to sit here and say Ray Lewis was overrated, but i would of taken him on the Steelers any day of the week.

the dude was not overrated. he was a great LB and he was a play maker and a leader on the field.

A lot of people call him the greatest linebacker of all time. Overrated.

It's beyond crazy to me, it's one of those conversations I can't even engage in because my head wants to explode. The guy was awesome, don't give a **** what anyone says.

But you get how anyone can be overrated or underrated, right? Jim Brown and Jerry Rice are eligible to be overrated (and are by some), and Limas Sweed is eligible to be underrated (and is, by plenty). Overrated doesn't mean bad, it means not as good as ___ says he is.

    *Head explosion*

I get ya, I can live with that more, there are those who say Lewis was a bad player though.

I wouldn't. But he is without a doubt in my mind overrated. Everyone who wants to call him the greatest LB of all time greatly overrates him. I can't even place him top 5 if cutting it down to middle/ILBers.

Then again, your average fan (and most sportscasters) act like history only began 5-10 years ago...

Well said. He's a great LB, no doubt, but he's certainly not the greatest. No human being is deserving of the hype and acclaim that he gets, IMO.

Yup, it takes watching the game with a critical eye and not just stat watching. Another thing they like to throw in is the intangibles.

Was Lewis good? yes. Would I liked to have seen what he could do in the Steelers D? Probably, yes.

Greatest ever? not even close IMHO

A little off topic, but another one that kills me is people talking about Tom Brady like he's in the conversation to be the best QB ever. At no point in Tom's career has he even been the best quarterback in his conference.

My mind boggles to think what Marino could have done with today's pass game friendly rules.

Or almost any QB from prior to the mid-70s.

"Three rings! He got three rings!"
-Anyone who thinks Tom Brady is the greatest anything, besides Patriots quarterback

I'm so sick of people using team accomplishments to judge individual talent.

There is a reason his team has done as well as it has with him at QB......

Well if greatest ever is the criteria being used to grade him then yeah, definitely overrated but the author of this article said his play on the field is overrated and I think that is about as blatantly wrong as someone can be.

This might be a mix up in communication. They say he's the greatest ever because of his play on the field. That means his play on the field is overrated.

I don't know, maybe I only think this because most of the games I saw him in were against the Steelers, and he didn't play as well against us. I remember him struggling to do anything against Dan Kreider and not being able to tackle Amos Zereoue, and that was when he was in his prime, not full of age excuses like today. I remember thinking, "What the hell is the big deal about this guy?" Maybe he WAS the greatest LB of all time when he was playing all the other teams, but should the greatest of all time be so pedestrian against his rival all the time?

I think he gets more credit than he deserves for the same reason lots of people do, because of his big fat mouth. Terrell Owens was also horribly overrated. So was Chad Johnson. So was Brett Favre. My God, Brett Favre! These guys drew attention to themselves, and people like that for some stupid reason. Can you imagine if Lewis had Heath Miller's personality? He'd probably be seen more like Derrick Brooks or Brian Urlacher or Lance Briggs. Don't get me wrong, I'd actually be able to respect him (if he also had Heath Miller's murder count), but he wouldn't be so bloated like he's been his entire career.

The Rat that done the best against us during the height of our rivalry a few years ago was Gumby Suggs.

Matt Cassell put up good numbers with the same offense. You know, the guy who didn't play a meaningful down since high school.

    Just saying...

It was with the same players but I saw a stat once that showed how Bill modified the offense and basically put in a scheme that totally favored Cassell. What it showed was that he rarely threw the ball longer than 10 yards. Most of what his stats consisted of was YAC type stuff.

Point being, The Hoodie is partly, if not mostly responsible for the production. Now, how he accomplishes that is another matter. ;)
