That's a good point. You can't put either interception on Cowher, and without those interceptions we win the game. His defense shut down the "amazing" Cowboys offense in the second half. And he got that badass onside kick... not easy to attribute specific plays to coaches, but that's one for Bill. And we were big underdogs for that game.

Yeah that's what I was talking about when I mentioned his swagger. I've seen Rocky talk about that too. Of course the cowgirls side of the story is that the ref got in the way but if you're a lb and can't plow through a ref I don't think you're gonna stop Franco when he's peeved.

You think Kevin Green was overrated? He was a sack machine for his whole career and has been a HOF finalist multiple times. But I've seen him be called a "journeyman" before so maybe I just have more fond memories of him because I was so young when he played here but I always thought he was super cool. I also grew up a HUUUUUUUGE wrestling fan so maybe that has something to do with it too. LOL.

Not sure that he was referring to Kevin Greene, Blount but is more than likely thinking about Eric Green the tightend during the first part of Cowher's tenure. He was a big pass catching TE that had alot of upside but was wasted in the power run game that Cowher and Erhardt used the first few years where the TE was seldom used in the passing game and was primarily a blocker. Shortly after they drafted Bruener and he was widely acknowledged as the best blocking TE we had and Eric Green faded into obscurity.

edit: opps Mac was quicker on the keys than I was.

Ok I see. I never really hear Kevin Green getting any love around here but I've also never heard anyone say that he was overrated either.

Most underrated of all time (in no particular order):

1. Randy Grossman
2. Carnell Lake
3. Louis Lipps (he was mentioned earlier in this thread in comparison to Swann...Lipps played on some mediocre Steeler teams and never got much recognition, except here:

4. Gerry Mullins
5. Jon Kolb (Both Mullins and Kolb were stalwarts on the o-line and won four rings. I don't think I have ever seen them on TV, interviewed, or even mentioned in any retrospective on the 70s Steelers)
6. David Little (The Steelers have had so many great LBs that some get ignored. He's one of them. Solid player for years.)
7. Bryan Hinkle (Same reason as #6)
8. John Jackson (solid at the T position for years)
9. Dwayne Woodruff
10. Keith Willis

I can't believe you didn't put Heath on that list. WE all know that he's great but he's not talked about league wide and that's sorta my definition of underrated. The fans know the true greatness but the general population doesn't. I honestly think that if Heath would have had a more TE friendly OC for the majority of his career he could've been HOF worthy. He's a great football player.

Also L.C. Greenwood should probably be on that list given that the HOF has snubbed him continuously.

Yes, Charlie Waters has blamed the ref for getting in his way, which is odd. Because #74, Ray Pinney, was about to knock him silly (see the replay). The ref actually saved Waters' butt. Also, there's been debate over whether or not Bradshaw had read the Cowboys' defense on that play. Waters and Cliff Harris contend they called an audible at the last second and that had they not done so, the play would have been stopped, thus Bradshaw didn't see "anything."

You're right about Heath, but I was thinking only of guys whose careers are already over. Heath maybe still has time to become known as the greatest TE in Steelers history (?) if he isn't already.

Nobody said it had to be a player! So my vote goes to Tomlin, he's a good coach but is way overrated in the media and with the Rooney's.

Not just the media and Rooneys who feel that way, so do his colleague's and players around the league. Like I said about Cowher, he got to 2 SB's, you're not overrated when you do that. Tomlins been to 2, not overrated. I know I know, Bills players, weak argument, Bill won with Nolls players. Still have to get to the SB which is a seriously hard thing to do and I think it is vastly under appreciated by fans just how hard.

I haven't been able to contribute to this thread (possibly because of my incurable homerism), but if we're going coaches, I guess I'd have to say Todd Haley. I'll be hiding safely in this flame-resistant suit...

Too early to tell with Haley. I'm having a hard time figuring out most overrated so I'm going with William Shakespeare when the Steelers picked him with their first pick ever they thought he was going to be poetry on the field and he never played a down.

Ok. I'm banning you! LOL. I said earlier that it was BA if we're going with coaches so go figure. I can say this for SURE. BA is the biggest lightning rod this team has ever seen.

BA overrated? I was no BA fan, but I'd think you'd have to categorize him as underrated, based on the extreme amount of animosity the guy drew. Everyone knows (I think) that I'm pro-Haley, but considering how much fan hype he's gotten, and the little that he's achieved, he'd have to be considered overrated.

Just based on his time here so far, of course. Who knows what the future holds...

Well the year we won the Super Bowl we were the 17th ranked offense. I'd say that Lebeau should get the credit for that since we were killing it on d all year. In BA's highest ranked year we went 9-7. That's how I reach that conclusion. Also if not for the fact that Ben is a freak of nature think of how many MORE sacks we would have had since Ben was constantly throwing with dudes hanging off him. Then when BA went to Indy Luck led the league in picks AND was sacked more than any qb. His system is just too risky for qb's but a good qb can compensate for the illogical parts of it. I would make that case that HE is overrated but made to look better than he is by the GREAT athleticism of Ben. It's really hard to explain actually. LOL. He's a walking contradiction. Partly truth and partly fiction.

You'll hear somebody say it now. Kevin Greene was overrated. He could get sacks, but did little else. Woodson, Lloyd and Lake were better players on that D, and people ***** he's not in the HOF. A real good LB,but limited, he was inferior to Cornelius Bennett, a contemportary who gets a tenth of the HOF consideration.
