Time to see what Asante Samuel Jr can do. Hopefully it gives the Pass Defense a boost. Corners sure do need it for certain.


As for the OT situation?! Hopeful that Andrus Peat holds up. He was a OT coming out of college but primarily has been a LG until 2023.

 

Please keep in mind that this is only the game day roster, and not the 53 man roster.

Any team that wants Samuels can still claim him on Tuesday off the Steelers Practice Squad. (Including the Steelers)

You buried the lead. As frustrating as he can be, losing Jones to IR is a big blow.

 

The active roster is the 53 man roster. It doesn't mean that he is going to be active, as they can elect to have him inactive for the game... but he is a part of the 53 man roster, claiming the spot that is vacated by Jones as he heads to IR. He is no longer a practice squad player, so he cannot be claimed.

 

On top of this, a team is allowed to protect I think up to 4 players on the PS from getting pilfered.

 

Given how often Pittsburgh has visited Alabama, Kadyn Proctor just may have valued up the boards. If not him, Trevor Goosby from Texas is another OT I can see being a target. Francis Mauigoa from Miami is another target.


Long story short?! It is tough to say how long Broderick will be out but Neck Injuries are still way too inconclusive and inconsistent. Some players come back fine, others sadly are never again the same.

 

Yeah, this is a good change that teams can basically store 4 players on the PS without them being pilfered. It’s a great change that the Steelers have been using although I believe it’s a week by week designation. Still it allows them to protect set players which is why you’ve seen the Steelers go out and obtain a player like ASJ, and place him on the PS.

The people on SNR are still reporting today that Asante has been elevated from the practice squad for today's game. Nothing about Asante making the 53 man roster yet.

 

He cant be elevated from the PS, without being placed on the active 53. He took the place of Jones going on IR

 

Well how about a nice Steeler debut with a pick 6.

 

You cant have 1 without the other. Any player elevated from the PS is automatically added to the 53, per NFL rules. There has to be room on the 53 in order in bring someone up. Another player would be sent down or released to make room on the 53. In this case, the room on the 53 was made when Jones went on IR

 

You don’t get elevated to nothing. You get elevated to the 53 man roster from the practice squad… there’s nothing inbetween

He’s on the active roster, which is the 53 man roster. He’s playing today and will be active.

 

I dont know how much ASJ can help, we dont have a lack of talent issue in the backfield, but a lack of communication/coordination issue

In each game of the regular and postseason, a Club may choose to elevate a maximum of two players from its Practice Squad to its Active/Inactive List without the player first terminating his Practice Squad Player Contract and executing an NFL Player Contract.

Any player who is elevated to a Club’s Active/Inactive List for a regular season or postseason game pursuant to this Section 5 shall automatically revert to the Club’s Practice Squad at 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the first business day following such game without being subject to waivers.

Game day elevation an active, does not mean the Practice Squad player is now on the 53-man roster. He is still on his Practice Squad Player Contract.

 

Same question: Where are you coming up with this idea that players on the practice squad can't be elevated to the game day roster?

That just means a player can be elevated while still being on a PS contract. They can return to the PS without hitting waivers if they are elevated for 2 or less games. If they are elevated for more, they must sign an NFL player contract and will need to be waived and re-signed to the PS while having to go through the waiver process.

Asante Samuel Jr is on the active roster, which is the 53 man roster. He can still be on a PS contract for this week and next week. We can return him to the PS without going through waivers during that time. Otherwise, he is on a player contract and will have to be waived and clear waivers to be resigned tot he PS. There is no way for PS players to be elevated to the game day roster without being on the 53 man roster. A player can be on a PS contract and on the 53 man roster at the same time.

 

In order to be on the ANY gameday roster, YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE ACTIVE 53. His contract is irrelevant in this case.
