I appreciate the positivity in a sea of negativity. Though what you are describing as pieces needed applies to about half the teams in the league.

I guess my question is...do we really have a cap issue? I get that moving to a more offensively focused mentality is the smart thing to do, but I also think that some get too wrapped up in what some of these players are making when it isn't really hurting them at the moment. Not getting a WR2 or any other varying position on offense isn't due to a lack of spending or cap space.

    Am I wrong?

    It is a watered-down league. :)

But repeat, you have to have a coach who understands how to work this league.
There's a line I want to quote from Cool Hand Luke... lol.

He may have a mediocre record, but I believe he is a better coach, given all this talent, I am of the opinion he wouldnt have gone 9-8 or only won 1 Super Bowl, you can believe that mediocre Mike is doing things only he is capable of, but I believe a better coach would be doing so much better. It may or may not be Gruden, but better coaches are out there....IE Ben Johnson for one.

My point is simply that there are better coaches out there, to stick with an average, mediocre coach, is insanity. If the new coach doesnt pan out, try again, I am tired of the 3 coaches in 50+ years BS, lets find a winner like we did with Noll.

You suffer from Dunning-Kruegers and I am not wrong. You dont know what Gruden brings to the table and you are afraid of change, change obviously scares you because that would require you to learn something new.

He didn't get a raise this year, right?

They added some bonuses that everyone knew he wasn't going to get to let him save face.

Oh sure he's a better coach because he makes some cool videos with QBs at draft time .

They would likely hire a younger guy who they would want to stick around for a long time.

I was going to post elsewhere but I'll drop it here. What we are witnessing is not mediocrity. We are seeing parity. How else do you explain some of the losses each week across the league?
    • BUF losing to ATL or MIA
    • NE losing to PIT
    • IND losing to PIT
    • PHI losing to NYG
    • GB losing to CLE
    • CIN beating JAX then JAX turns around and beats KC
Still not convinced? Well, there's been 94 games ending in a one score margin out of 178 games played. That's more than half the games ending in a one possession difference.

This is what the NFL wants. It generates fan interest week-to-week.

I think its funny people are dismissing Grudens coaching prowess. I would take him as OC in a second.

Gruden is persona non grata in the NFL.

Everyone gets second chances. Steelers particularly are fond of giving them.

No problem with Gruden as OC...but not as head coach!

Where does the Gruden is good narrative come from?

He is 117-112 for his career. He mostly went 9-7 or 8-8 with some losing records sprinkled in. Seriously, go take a look - https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/GrudJo0.htm

What is the big deal with this guy? He is a media and self-aggrandizing hype machine with mostly mediocre results. Tomlin detractors would be trading for the exact same thing they say they don't want.

Agree it's crazy which will make the AFC Playoffs wide open and should be fun to watch. NFC I can't see anyone but the Eagles, maybe Rams. I think it will come down to who has home field advantage.

Rams are legit. I seen Stafford play live several times at Ford field with the Lions. Guy's arm is uncanny accurate and still strong at his age. And to think the Rams gutted the team just a few years back. It just takes coaching and FO knowing what they are doing.

No, I think he is a better coach because he doesnt speak gibberish and cliches and words actually have substance and meaning, plus I believe he will make the players accountable for their actions on and off the field.

Are we talking about the same guy? Gruden is cliches at a rate on par or beyond with Tomlin. His gimmick is literally "Gruden's Grinders".

Some say Gruden took two teams to the Super Bowl that year. Dungy's players or not, Dungy couldn't get there with them and the Raiders were on autopilot that season, riding Gruden's players and playbook to the SB.
