In what league is Smith in contention for a head coaching position? The UFL?

The NFL and in college. His name has been talked about numerous times. It would be extremely shocking if he didn't interview for multiple positions. Whether or not he gets one is anyone's guess.

Whoever is the best player now needs to be the one playing now. I doubt Howard is better than Aaron or Mason now, so he shouldn't be playing now.

What did any of you see from Will Howard in college that makes you think he will be a good NFL QB?

Tell me one trait he possesses other than not being the current starter that tells you he will be a good NFL QB? Because having watched him play in college, I was annoyed the Steelers wasted a draft pick on him. I hope I am completely wrong but I have no faith in him at the pro level after seeing a good, but not great, college QB.

Of course I also went to Michigan and watched my Alma mater make Will Howard look like garbage last November, so there is that.

So were going to pin our hopes on a 6th round rookie Qb?

best thing to do is let AR play next week

That's a throw in the towel on the season move. If you just put Howard in for one game, that's too small a sample to 'know what you have'. He would need to start a minimum of 3 games to even begin to get an idea. We are still in the fight for the division. Why would we not stay with ARod for now? If we lose the next 3 games, then maybe let Will Howard close out the season. Now is not the time.

Which is why we took him at 11 overall. Ben was the future. Will is not the next Ben. Not yet.

My point was if they knew Ben was Ben they wouldnt have planned on sitting him his first season. He only saw the field because everyone in front of him was injured.

You only find that out by playing in real games.

Hard disagree. Dont know how you dispute that. There is no substitute for real game action.

Some people practice well and play like **** and vice versa.

    This.

I don't think Mason is great, but he's a competent backup.

Howard hasn't even seen preseason action in the NFL.

Next two weeks are critical. Maybe if they lose both. But even then the mission statement of this team is "win the next week". It's not about developing QBs for next year and beyond.

You definitely know somebody is ready or not. If Thompson weren't on IR he would be ahead on the depth chart. There is no way Howard is coming in and is a better QB than ARod. The 'we don't know' thing is just a 'fans don't know' thing.

I’m thinking Thompson is still on the IR as a way to stash him

Plus I believe they at least want to get Howard started in the right direction with some practice squad snaps

    Baby steps

They dont know **** until a player is doing it for real.

They arent winning a SB with a washed/injured Rodgers and certainly not with Rudolph so it’s ridiculous to not try Howard. I get that his injury has set his timeline back Ive made that argument as to why Tomlin wont play him but doesnt mean I think they shouldnt try. WTF do you have to lose.

He didn't even play one preseason snap, and you would start him week 13 against the Bills?

WTF do you have to lose? A possible future QB. Same thing you're gambling on he can be. Whatever that level is you think Howard can reach, that is what you are risking by putting him out there before he is ready.

You and I can debate this and that's fine. It comes down to do the coaches think he is the best solution for winning games. Once the people that see him daily feel like he's ready, I will feel like he's ready.

Tomlin coaching the 2026 season will make him the all time winningest coach in Steelers history. I agree after the 2026 season the HC leaves and we have a new Rooney for 2027.

This season appears to be headed for another non playoff win. I can’t imagine even Senile Art gives him extension at this point. One more poor year in 2026 and the nightmare might finally be over.

A new Rooney in 2027?! I severely doubt this personally. Even with his advanced age, AR II will be 75 by then and will still have some years left there. Daniel will be 37. Not that I disagree that DMR III should take over but I just don't see it.

As for Tomlin capturing the All Time Steelers Winning Record?! Congrats to him. Emperor Noll is, at best, a Top 5 Coach All Time in NFL History and at worst, Top 8. Tomlin is Top 15 at best to Top 20 at worst.

No chance, we're just playing for Tomlin's ego now, come to think of it that's all we're ever playing for.
