Yet another example of other coaches playing chess and Tomlin playing Tiddlywinks.

I think it’s important to understand that there will be multiple organizations interested in hiring Mike Tomlin. I don’t fully understand why, but I know it’s a real thing.

My main concern, as it has been for years, is the inconsistency — the constant up-and-down style of play. From week to week, you never really know what kind of performance or outcome to expect.

Is Tomlin the sole reason for the decline of an otherwise stellar organization? Absolutely not. There are many pieces to this elusive puzzle. But after nearly 48 years as a fan, I can honestly say my interest is fading. Maybe it’s because of what I see on the field, or maybe it’s just age and how I choose to spend my time these days.

Bottom line: real changes need to be made. Like any organization, the buck stops at the top. Maybe it’s time for some wholesale changes? What's that old expression. "a change is as good as a rest".

If, as so many of you on here claim, everything boils down to Tomlin, blame, decisions, lack of decisions, playing time..........what difference does it make how many coaches are on the staff?

I accidentally voted YES. I meant to vote NO. Mike Tomlin will coach the Steelers as long as he likes.

Completely agree. The expectation for the steelers is winning championships and at least competing for championships. We have not been a championship caliber team in a decade. If a company missed expectations for revenue, profits, etc. for a decade, the CEO and probably the entire executive team would have been shown the door. Hell, in some companies, miss projections for 4 or 5 quarters in a row and you're getting bounced. The fact Tomlin is still here and getting extensions after the past 9 years of crap results is just pure negligence by the owners.

glad your paying attention. It was more than a decade ago...probably around the time he was getting in Jacoby Jones running path that he said something after a loss like "we didn't plan on that because I like to coach from my gut". The statement left me less than encouraged back then. Thank God he's stuck to that motto. The rest of the afc loves it because we haven't been a playoff threat since then.

And yet I hear some in the media and certainly on this board still breaking their back to defend him. Must be exhausting year after year I just do not get it at all. He hasn’t been a great coach in a decade plus!

Owner. The gummy worm Art II. The minority owners have no say.

They are above the mean (whatever that is) which the gummy worm covets and says Popcorn Bags Tomlin is a big part of that.

The Standard is Rinse and Repeat. Non losing and playoff blow outs.

The season ticket wait list is 20 years or longer. So Art II just bought another safe...

Good one. If memory serves that was for B. Spears.

Side bar: Rolling Stone Magazine had her on the cover when she was young. I put the picture up in my shed and wife made me take it down cause it looked like kiddie porn. I just told her oops I did it again;)

It should be! If a team has a 4 game lead in the division for first place and then loses it. that should be grounds for dismissal. If Tomlin doesnt retire or Rooney doesnt fire him at seasons end. it tells me that neither really care abt this team

Has Tomlin ever been considered a great coach? Good yea maybe early in his career but then again he inherited a HOF team from Cowher and only won 1 SB with that group he had. I know nothing about coaching football but I could have gotten that team to at least the AFC championship game. I have always said that any coach can fall into a SB win eventually given the right team and other coaches on the squad, but a great coach wins multiple SB's and I would bet the farm that this Steelers coach has backed into the only SB win that this organization will see until the reigns are given to someone else!

Give it to the Rooney family, any coach would be willing to take on the steelers because the Rooneys will give you every chance in the world to build your program and run with it. They do not just give you a few years to do it in, they believe in the 20 year program for head coaches

If you don't prepare for something, then you're prepared for nothing. Sounds about right. You think Tomlin fears for his job right now when they are over 500? He's thinking he's in the driver's seat and looking for a contract extension in the post season.

It's the periodic head fake "Tomlin on hotseat" article that is to mislead people. No one want's Tomlin to go away who are not Steelers fans as they know as long as he's here, the Steelers are one less organization to worry about, especially in post season. All the talking heads say the same thing because they want this team to remain a non-threat so why not advocate to keep him in Pittsburgh.

Tomlin isn't a bad coach, but he seems more concerned about his place in NFL history rather than championships. I think if he started quoting John MacKay he would get more respect.

Tomlin did not throw the pick yesterday on second and one and he did not fumble the ball. In fact they made some adjustments like Gainwell for the burst on 4th instead of the tush push plus some of the other gadget plays that worked.

Tomlin isn't the problem, but is only part of it. In some areas he gets more out of some players than others. The Steelers did more in FA than I can remember in the last 20 years.

One thing that was missing early was discipline like you would see on the 1960s Packers or the fire from the 1970s Steelers. Some of the players treat their position like a job and a paycheck. There have been some good surprises too, but some of the mistakes cost them games that should have been won if they just played consistently.

I have seen too many smiles at the beginning of the games like Tomlin is selling snake oil because the team has not been scoring much in the first quarter in a very long time. That should be where they focus first.

Tomlin is as responsible as anyone for putting together a game plan that is porous and ineffective. I am totally fine with coaches, players playing for and treating their respective positions as a job with a pay check so long as they are prepared to accept the consequences of being inefficient and demonstrating lack luster play. This is not original thought and would never happen but game checks should be based on performance.. In this way you just might get more for less out of players.

I think Tomlin has already checked out.

Watching the broadcast game the announcers said they were talking to Tomlin and he told them that Mason had taken all the 1st team reps. After the game, 2 local pod-casters that had attended Steeler practices last week, said this was 100% wrong and Aaron Rodgers was taking 1st team snaps in Pittsburgh last week.

I don't know why Tomlin wound try to deceive the game day broadcasters as they can't report it, unless Tomlin just didn't know who was actually taking the snaps in practice?
