    Certainly couldn`t hurt...
Injuries, from collisions/playing the game, are always going to happen.
But, doing the proper cardio/whatever, to make sure players are as fresh as possible, in the 4th qtr, HAS to be a good thing.
Kinda surprised the players are "welcoming" it... but, ok...
The muscle strains/pulls, in particular, esp to the same players, repeatedly, have to be a factor in this...
At least they are doing what they can to prevent it...
Then again, when Tomlin inherited the team, he saw a weakness on special teams play, and devoted a majority of his first training camp to it...
Can`t say it got any better, but at least he saw an area that needed improvement, and did his best to address it.
That`s all ya can ask for.

    art noticed something.

i do believe in the last 4-5 years or so that alot of our vets didn't take conditioning very seriously. our line of max, colon, even foster stating he's gained 25lbs. and he's only been here 4 years. casey was a good example too. yea a NT has to be big, but casey could have extended his career if he played 25lbs. lighter.

mclendon just lost 15lbs. he was at 335. too much. dwyer, troy got fatter, hood finally lost alot of fat last year, redman has lost weight 2 years in a row, woodley has gained weight, essex when he was here.

our vet leadership has not set real good examples for the young guys and most of the young guys from over these last few years are not here anymore and never really stepped up to take an inheirited spot because of this training. guys like mundy. maybe alot of the reason we start out slow early in the season too.

here's hoping the leadership and training regiment are brought back to steeler country with pouncey and DD and hood and mclendon and ike. they have worked to make thier bodies better as aspiring pro athletes. it has to help our team regain it's form that we somehow lost. we were known for strong, mean hard working players that were in better shape then the guy accross from them and it gave us that edge.

we are burning up bens years faster then we can imagine and it's time to get this team back to the pride and greatness that all our players before built. part of that is being in shape and ready before the season starts.

i was so glad to read that pouncey,DD and all the young guys like long and cheadle and malecki were all working hard together in the weight room and conditioning together. yea, they may be young, but i'll take young, strong, mobile and hungry over a line like starks, colon, legs, foster, and i think gilbert had fallen into that habit and pouncey to an extent.

they have already talked about gilbert and foster having to lose weight for this line to work well.

mike adams needs to get stronger and leaner too. this will retard that before camp. maybe he should have been with his buddy beachum at home in his livingroom practicing. i am in no way blaming adams for what happened, but he needs work and so does gilbert and niether seem like guys that will do it on their own without some pushing from teamates.

this is where pouncey and DD and beachum come in as leaders over guys like starks and colon. i wish them the best but just not here. the new leadership is looking promissing. even da beard said, i lift and train after practice to show the young guys that i'm not to old and tired to do it , so they should too.

say what, you will about baechum, but this kid is working his butt off and will be ready to go come the season. i'll take guys like this year in and year out over a guy that goes through the motions every year and living off draft status and last year's results and i'll show you a winning team again.

sorry for the rant, but i believe the tide is changing for the better.

Stress test? That is for Heart conditions? I wonder if it is a player safety thing by Goodell to prevent anyone collapsing dead during training camp in 2 months???

it's going to be used as a gauge of if these guys are where they should be as athletes ready to step on an NFL field. it sounds like they want to be better conditioned too. thats a good thing.

if you read it, the article says it's adjusted to position and size and age. where on the chart each should be. we are talking about guys that are conditioned athletes or should be, not some couch potato with a beer gut. casey would have had a rough time i grant you. dwyer may have to tap out. heck ben opted for knee surgery to get out of it. LOL:smiley1::cool:

Camp cupcake is league induced, blame the CBA, coaches hands are tied on the matter.

alot of it had to do with padded practices and hitting i thought.

conditioning can be done year round if the player desires.

alot of players talk about staying around here in the offseason to train here and use the facilities.

i still am of the mindset that our leadership of many players were not the let's go to the gym type guys and it trickled throughout the team in alot of cases.

No amount of conditioning in the off season will have players ready to be in football shape.

A person's body isn't built to take the amount of punishment that happens on the football field.

Unless a better human can be built or equipment can be improved to take the brunt of hits then injuries will happen. Injuries will always be a part of the game.

I'm sure coming in fat and out of shape doesn't help.

Wasn;t that after Tomlin's first year where he worked everyone so hard they were spent by midseason? I seem to remember an interview with him how he was adapting to being a HC.

2009 was the year after they won the Super Bowl.

So "Camp Cupcake" was our SB victory year and the year prior was Tomlin's Camp Torture.

The whole "Camp Cupcake" thing was really a BS moniker created by some national sports writer who spent an hour or two at camp for a day that year. Many of the veterans didn't see it that way when asked during the season. Tomlin wasn't deaf to the criticism however, as he nixed Movie Day and Family Day the following camp IIRC.

I have no idea what happened when, but if "Camp Cupcake" happened in 2009, then that means it happened right after we won the Super Bowl.

c'mon, all you guys know there were no camp cupcakes. casey was here and he would have eaten them.

that's how they calmed him after practice by pushing a couple a dozen over towards his locker with a stick.
