Agree, I rank him right up there with Josh Dobbs.

He is a fun story coming off the bench, but once a team actually starts game planning for him his play falls off a cliff.

Fittipaldo had a good point today. Said Rodgers has the complete trust and freedom with Smith to make/change calls at the line. I don't think they would give Rudolph that same freedom.

No you appealed to authority for opinion. That authority, Tomlin, is wrong, proven wrong on facts, based on previous starters that he went out of his way to court to start for him. And not one but multiple starters, all failed. Those are the facts. And that authority is wrong and you are wrong on supporting facts to appeal to that authority for opinion.

In street lingo, the "facts" are: Tomlin is a proven idiot when it comes to selecting quarterbacks (plural). He is no authority.

32 NFL teams didn't think that because at least 24 are set at QB and are probably only looking for back up QB. If you have Mahomes, Allen, Hebert, Daniels, Goff, Love etc. you wouldn't look to sign Mason. Amongst the rest, most are wrong like Tomlin was with Pickett, etc. Atlanta, Minnesota, Jets, Raiders probably wish they had Mason as they have benched their starters and backups aren't doing better. The list for NFL 1st round drafted qb who ended being bust is about three times as long as those who were successful proving NFL GMs probably aren't the all knowing prognosticators of NFL talent. Darnhold was rejected by three teams until he was in a right situation with Minnesota to succeed. My opinion is that Rudolph can be just as good as Darnhold if given a chance.

Heard today on Altoona radio station discussing Mason as the Steelers best back up in Steelers history.
    mason as backup 9-6-1
    Batch 6-3
Cliff stoudt? Did he even play?
    Who might be better?

Charlie Batch is probably his best comparable. He was never a great starter, but he could be relied on to win games in a pinch when you needed him. Very much like Rudolph.

But you're acting like Tomlin should have known 100% whether a guy would work out before he brought him in or even that it was possible for anyone to know. Tomlin is trying to solve a problem at QB. He might be more like "I don't know if this guy is going to work, but let's give him a try. If he does, great. If he doesn't, get rid of him." Searching for a starting QB can be a series of trying one guy after another until one works out. I'm not sure you hold it against the HC every time someone doesn't work out.

Mason record with the Steelers is 8-4-1 and 1-4 with Titans according to his Wiki page.. I don't know where you are getting 9-6-1

We’ve seen what he can do for a couple years and he’s not it. I’ll take Rodgers for the rest of the season.

He was the best QB in the league per stats for the 2023 season based on 4 games played (including playoff).

Rodgers ain't doing that. He's not having a 300 yard game. Heck he's not even having a 250 yard game.

Also only 4 games of Rodgers is where our offense scored over 30 points (and I'm just going to give the benefit of a doubt the defense did not score in those games over 30).

Rodgers is just good. He's not great. In fact he's scared to take a hit, and he sucks with accurate long distance throws.

One last thing, bears and bills is a lot harder of a game than what Rodgers has been facing.

There is no evidence to back that up. There is plenty of data. How many times has he been a free agent and all he could get was low-end backup money? He even had to settle for a No. 3 job once.

I think you are having trouble with the definition of fact or opinion, but I'm not sure. I'm trying to make sense of this post, but it is not clear.

Context matters in training camp. It doesn't mean much when a veteran lights it up against a bunch of guys who will be bagging groceries a week or two later.

As others already pointed out, it isn't just the Steelers who realize that Rudolph is nothing more than a middling backup. The entire league knows it. We see it every time he becomes a free agent and no one even wants to give him the opportunity to compete for a starting job.

Yes, he should have known. That's why you acquire a quarterback, because you know he can play.
Tomlin changed the QB room three times in three seasons. The whole room. He keeps running away from his own decisions after each season, on all three quarterbacks that he selected for that season. None are good enough after that season based on his "opinion." He does not know what he is doing.
