Given how that was a direct quote from Tomlin, Pittsburgh now officially seems to have an issue drafting WRs and keeping them long term.

Either they are not good enough in the form of Markus Wheaton, Sammie Coates or James Washington or they crash out in the form of Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Diontae Johnson and now George Pickens.

As @HeinzMustard@HeinzMustard correctly pointed out a while back; the only WRs Tomlin drafted that went on to have successful careers were, oddly enough, the "Young Money Crew" in Emmanuel Sanders, Mike Wallace and of course, AB (his Super Bowl win anyways).

However, I also do not fault Tomlin for 100% of this. Kevin Colbert also had a hand in this as well. Takes two to tango and Khan's first Official Draft wasn't until 2023. That isn't to say he didn't oppose these players all together but factoring him in would be factoring in a lot of assumptions.

There seems to be this assumption you draft for choir boys and boy scouts going on here. GP had warts all the way back to his draft process, I remember reading about it. But he also has tremendous talent as WR and was drafted because of THAT, and in spite of his flaws in other areas. It wasn't a mistake to draft GP in that draft. We needed a WR and he was one of the best on the board.

We do not know for how long the Steelers have been shopping GP. We don't. Just because the trade happened in May does not mean they weren't looking to trade him before the deadline last season. The Steelers keep those type things pretty much in house only. I don't know, just saying it's possible.

I like the Metcalf trade. I originally thought it was made to pair with Pickens. Turns out it was to replace Pickens. Disappointing to me because I really valued GP's talent as a WR. The big BUT here is, we still have talent in that room.
-There has been a lot of speculation on why Roman Wilson didn't return to the lineup, but that's another thing we really have no info on other than just rumor.
-CA3 has improved each season, only 2 and went from Canada to Smith, so no real surprise there. Still only 8 starts under Smith which puts him in the wait and see category.
-I still have PTSD after bringing in Mike Williams last season so I'm skeptical on the Robert Woods move until proven otherwise. Damaged goods has not been a wise choice for us in the past.

I don't know the actual plan at WR2. I know Khan said they were happy with RW when he was asked about WR2 in the presser, but we know there will be no 'real plan' information given. And so we wait. For some waiting really is the hardest part. Some enjoy this process. I think I'm one of those that enjoys the process and watching how things develop. I don't need all the answers yesterday.

And you are assuming they are false. You are assuming the Steelers care what fans think of them to the point they need to lie about it and most of all you are assuming they would trade away a mildly disruptive player. That last one is common sense, of course they wouldn’t move a player of Pickens caliber if he wasn’t a massive disruption to the team. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot like this for a player that just pouts.

I wouldn't call what we know about him mildly disruptive. We know he took plays off, which is a big deal. I have harshly criticized Pickens for that. He did that throughout his time as a Steeler. The stupid penalties are also an issue. That said, the Steelers knew there would be criticism of the deal because they put themselves right back in the situation that worked out so poorly last season with only one legitimate outside receiver.

When it comes to assumptions, it is better to stick to the things we know are true and dismiss the things that are in doubt. That is what good journalists do. That is what good researchers do. When in doubt, leave it out. Given that the Steelers are like every other pro sports team in that they have no problem lying and that they had reason to lie, there is very good reason to doubt the leaks that clearly came from the team.

Wish some here would review their opinion/view/stance

    Merge the DK/GP thread into

No, it belongs here. It is a huge part of the story of the 2925 Steelers. If you don’t want to read about it, don’t click on the thread.

I gave the trade a D at the time. Now that the rest of the offseason and trade deadline have passed without the Steelers adding a valid replacement and Pickens is putting together a strong season in Dallas, I see that I was too generous. Give it an F. If there was a lgrade lower than F, I would give it to the Steelers for this trade.

How the rest of the world sees the George Pickens trade.

Kay Adams Calls Out What Might Be the 'Worst' Trade in NFL History

"I think that trading George Pickens is probably going to go down as one of the worst deals in NFL history — and I mean that," Adams said Tuesday on "Up & Adams." "And I'm sorry to the Steelers. I just think it's true. And the best from the Dallas perspective. Like, what a haul. It is so clear. It is so glaringly obvious watching George Pickens last night."

Most of the rest of the world knows better than Adams. That is one of the most ridiculous takes I've seen in a long time. It's a terrible trade, but declaring it to be among the worst of all time is a stunning display of ignorance and stupidity by someone who should know better. I have heard Adams speak intelligently about football, but she did not do that in this instance. She sounded more like a dumbass fangirl than an informed professional football analyst.
