Apparently, Dwyer has reported to OTAs fat and out of shape. This is absolutely unbelievable first of all and extremely disappointing. Listening to Steelers radio today they said that Ed Bouchette had written that Dwyer's teammates were shocked that he'd shown up looking the way he did. It's baffling to me that he wouldn't show up in the best shape of his career given the current RB situation. I had such high hopes for Dwyer but now it appears he's as good as gone.

I`m as shocked as you are!
If true, he has no one to blame, but himself.
Knowing it was probably going to come down to him, and Redman, and knowing he had the youth factor on his side, there is absolutely no excuse for him not to show up in the best possible shape, and put forth his best effort.
Apparentley, he just doesn`t have the "want to", that I would want in a Steeler runningback, and I`m sure the front office sees it the same way.

And word is that Redman is looking svelte and in very good condition. I actually think Dwyer is the more talented of the two, but it appears that Redman wants it more.

Yeah, this was discussed at the beginning of OTA's (I don't think you have been around much). He's going to be the odd man out, Red is showing he wants it much more. The knock on Dwyer has always been his work ethic, he's lazy and apparently fat :lolol:

Who cares I think bell is a real deal 3 down back. Redman can spell him but he's young so he shouldn't need too many breaks. I think Bell brings a very powerful dimension to our offense making our "dink and dunk" style very dangerous. Teams are going to have to bring eight players into the boxat times to stop him. Once that happens and brown catches a quick slant with one safety to beat look out. If all goes as planned this offense has a great potential to be deadly.

Not to rain on your parade, but I think this Offense has had the POTENTIAL, for years...
I just hope they realize that potential, this year!
And, while I agree that Bell LOOKS like the real deal... time will tell.
    Here`s hoping we are right!:drinks:
I have been hungry for a return to the "Amazing Steelers", for years.
I just don`t see why this offense can`t put up 30 points a game.
That is usually MORE than enough to win, given our defense.
    However,
This is more of an "uncharted waters", kinda year, than any in recent memory.
Every year is different, but we have a LOT of new faces, or at least younger faces, this year, that gotta get it done.
As always, I have blind faith that they will!
    GO STEELERS!:herewego!:

I think Dwyer wants to play noseguard since Casey his out. He must not have got the memo about Mclendon.

We haven't had a real rb since FWP or the line either. Teams didn't have to worry about the run. Mendy had one good year and we went to the super bowl. I love the running game. Growing up in western pa pounding the rock is football to me. It just seems we have all the pieces once heath is ready. I'm actually more worried about our defense then our offense this year. Foote scares the hell out of me he seems like he is going to be a major weak link.

I soured on Mendy big time last season but we had a running game while he was here and healthy, 1369, 1440 & 1082 yards from scrimmage 3 years in a row. Every year it seems we underachieve on offense, the blame used to fall on BA, last year it was a slew of reasons, run game being one of them. I'm more worried about the offense then the defense, the defense has a much better track record.

he should spend a little more time in the gym and a lot less time on twitter.

im not on twitter, but on the front page here it shows all the tweets and he is usually on there a ton.

Yes, he's on there a ton which would be fine if he was putting in the work like he makes out that he is. I think Dywer may be a bit of a talker and not a doer.

If he's not careful, he's going to have a TON of time in the fall and winter to talk on twitter all he wants.

I'm not sure it takes more than a few seconds to tweet something.

In one sense, that's better than having a Chad Johnson-esque clown who courts media attention all the time, taking up time away from the important stuff...

The link says quite clearly that while there are reports of Dwyer showing up out of shape, he's also been taking reps with the 1sts, and then basically goes on to discuss (with the caveat that we can't read too much into any of this at all) whether there is a contradiction in these two facts.

    Bring on preseason, please...

dwyer seems to be one of the many gifted athletes out there that rely strictly on their athletic ability to get them by, and then expects the coaches to hand them everything on a silver platter based on that ability..... that only works in high school and some of the lesser colleges though, and when they get to the pros., and realize that everyone is an elite athlete, they're too lazy to put in the work necessary to win a competition...... problem is that once you're set in your ways like that, it's extremely hard and next to impossible to all of a sudden turn on the lights.......... someone should've taught him a an early age that in the end hard work beats out talent............ here endeth the lesson

Is anyone else here concerned that Bell doesn't appear to have the physical stature of a big back despite his measurables? he also runs straight up a la Eddie George, not that that is a bad thing, it just makes him easier to tackle. I gotta admit, I'm kinda worried. Just piggybacking off of the Dwyer concerns.

he's not just a big back steelfan. he has moves too. he's still 6-1 230 though if need be. instead of an eddie george, i think he's more of an arian foster type of back. that ain't bad either.

i'm still liking mcneal. that kid is built for his listed size.

Someone on the old board posted his arrival for his Rook camp and I commented on the spare tire that accompanied him. To me it's scary that a guy that young, an athlete at that level, a RB at that, already had a spare. Self discipline??? No one thought there was reason for concern.

Here we are and there he is, with his spare, yet again. Not a good sign for a young guy that makes a living running.

I liked him @ GT and hope he can get it together.
