the little slant? he missed those twice and ben lost confidence in him after that. i don't think he threw another one to him around the goaline. kind of a head scratcher for them to re-sign him i thought. it's not like he knew this offense and most of these guys.

He had some drops early, and he also dropped the final two passes of the game, either of which would have won it. The second one was a little tricky but he should have caught it. The first one was easy.

I think he's perfect for Haleys system, quick short passes, I also think he has the ability make the longer throws, just needs more consistency. Around 2:50 and 7:45 of the first video were 2 very nice throws. I think he's come to the right place, can ride the bench with no pressure of starting and hone his craft while learning from Ben. I hated the pick when they made it but after some time to absorb it, I think he can be good.

You might be right about all that. The only thing that's bugging me about Haley and his system, though, is that I don't think it'll be around for long. He already almost bailed after one year. After our offense makes big strides in 2013, I think he's gone for sure and we have to hope the next guy keeps the good ideas flowing.

I do like the pick more now than when it first happened, but not by much. Not like the transformation from the initial reactions I had to Bell (unhappy to happy enough) and Williams (clueless/indifferent to excited).

I've got two things to say after watching tape, neither of which helps evaluate Jones. One, was it just me or did FSU seem to jump offside quite often. Two, instead of drafting Jones we should have drafted the receiver with the number 4, that kid can flat-out catch! Oh, yeah, Jones is ok, too.

yea jim, stills was tough and thought we may take him in the draft.

i've been saying this about jones and haley. jones runs that short to mid range offense like haley wants to do. i think he's the perfect qb to do that type system. haley also wants ben to run it this way but better.

i also think it would be in haley's best interest to win here first. the pieces are dropping into place for a run at the big prize soon. if haley's a part of that even with the rocky situation the media blows up about him and ben, he will look much more head coachish, then before to other teams. if they win it, he could also stay and try for the repeat, i'd think anyway.

Yeah, I took Kenny Stills in our mock draft, but that was based on stuff I read. I hadn't actually watched film on him until now, and he's better than I was led to believe by the reports. I wouldn't have minded taking him with that pick. And I'm still frustrated we missed out on Barrett Jones.

So Jones is the perfect QB for the system, and Ben needs to do better. Do we have a QB controversy on our hands? :hmmm:

no, not at all. it's meant to mean if ben runs it like that with the quicker passing, he stays upright and allows our mobile line to do what they will do best.

it also means ben can and will throw the deeper stuff better. ben will always run it better, he's the vet, but he rarely makes 16 games.

jones plays well in this system also, which means while ben ages or misses much time, the kid could manage the offense to a couple of wins hopefully. they are working on improving the O to everyones liking for ben, but if the kid has to play, the basis is already there. he's played in it. i'm also sure ben wants to run it better then last year too. the two theories of the offenses are the same or atleast similar.

I have seen Jones since his first year at OU. He started out slow his first year but put necessary work in and progressed nicely to have two outstanding seasons. He regressed a little his senior year due the the lack of a running game ( losing DeMarco Murray to the pros ) and losing his go to receiver in Broyles. He is NOT Ben but has promise and is a 2-3 year project, if surrounded with a running game, good O-line, and capable receivers. I'm on the fence with Jones ( he has to want to put the effort and work in, which he can ) but I do believe Brown can be this years AB.

no prob snack, i was glad you asked really. i'm hoping it turns out to be this way, helping ben and helping our young future too. if it runs smooth and we win, maybe haley stays. i hope ben and all of them do well in this offense. we have some of the makings of a good O. if it prolongs ben then great. that will be two things they wanted it to do.

I'll say this, last preseason we had no quarterbacks that we wanted on the field. We knew Ben, Lefty, and Charlie inside out and didn't want any of them getting hurt, and the last guy was destined to not make the team. It'll be nice to again have someone that we can watch develop. Hell, it'll be nice just to have a QB on the team that we want to see at all in an exhibition.

I might be able to be the QB under those circumstances! Hello...Tomlin I'm still standing by my phone for that call, just in case you forgot I was ready. And by ready I mean that I have my #7 jersey on and am holding my Steelers Penant in my hand!

Jones has upside and potential and will make a good system QB, he wont fit in a Ben style of pocket play, but then how many QBs would? LJ will do fine with an offense designed to fit his comfort zone, he needs a lot of experience and I don't expect he's going to get a lot of game time experience behind Ben, I like the pick though, and the future could be bright for him if he can handle the wait time...

I got this to say. I've seen zero tape on him including what snack has posted. Just haven't had the time.

Here's my take, He had great numbers in college yet dropped deep in the draft in a year that was lacking in QB talent. That says something about what the people who do this for a living think of him.

What they can't gauge is his heart, determination, IQ. Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th. Marino was the 6th QB taken. We cut Unitas. Dennis Dixon was a QB who almost won the Heisman and the Next Great Steeler QB.

In short Landry could very well be gone in a couple years, then again he could develop into a solid QB over time. Let's just pray he isn't needed this year.

Many times this is what separates the Tom Bradys from the Brian St. Pierres.

I thought it was enormous talent

You can shine a turd but it's still a turd. Heart and determination only gets you so far, you won't last in this league without bonafide talent.

You think Tom Brady was considered a QB with "enormous talent" coming out of Michigan?

No, but the fact remains that he has it. The fact that nobody knew that only says something about his college days. And there was not a lot to go on with Tom, whereas with Jones we have more to go on than almost any college QB ever.

Tom Brady is different because he has more heart and tries harder? :bscow: Patrick Bailey tried pretty hard, but that didn't stop him from getting cut after being ROTY. The third thing mentioned, IQ, is definitely part of it, but of course that's factored into the talent.

Talent? Every player drafted or signed to a UDFA contract has Talent!!! Tom is different and it is due to his heart, Determination ( didn't say "tries harder", you always like to change my words in hopes of cheapening them!! ) and IQ.

Patrick Bailey was undrafted, made the team, was our ROTY, which speaks volumes of our poor draft that year. Only Mendy was decent and he only played in 4 games!!!!
Bailey was cut after we drafted 3 LBers. worilds, gibson and stevenson. He still plays for the titans so it would seem determination for an undrafted FA has kept in the NFL for 5years.

    Cajun-

Edit: Snack, what do you mean there was not alot to go on with Tom. Are you serious? He came from a huge football school in the modern era, why, we even had the NFL Combine way back then!!!!
