TBH I don't care if he can tackle. We need a corner who can cover better. Pierre has shown to be a solid back up, but we have Porter and nothing else with Ramsey being placed on full time FS duty. If he can stop the WR from tearing us apart, I could care less if he misses a handful of tackles.

That was my big red flag. It means that not a single team in the NFL thought he was good/healthy enough to sign to an active roster.

As a Practice squad player, any team that actually wants to open a roster spot on their active roster can have him for league minimum. I would assume he was turned down by every team he visited and was forced to sign with Pittsburgh's practice squad where he will be on a week-to-week trial basis making $8,000 per week. (Hey the good thing is there is no downside here)

Hopefully Khan will not be trying too hard to take credit for signing a guy that was turned down by every team in the league. Khans inabilty to sign anyone at the trade deadline to make this team better speaks volumes on just how bad he is at replacing talent he has let go!

A few technicalities: 1) Samuel met with the 49ers, Panthers, and Vikings (with the Bears on tap) before signing with us; 2) teams can protect four players from their PS each week against being signed to another team's roster; and 3) as a vet with over two years of service Samuel will make between $17,500 and $22,000 per week while on the PS.

Making Acrisure a stately pleasure dome?

Quibble: it’s not like the other 31 teams all passed on him. Only the teams that even had an interest in adding a not-game-ready CB and that he was willing to meet with.

I keep seeing this point and it is nonsense. Just because scrubs like Austin aren't getting targets doesn't mean Pickens wouldn't be getting the ball.

Why, because you don't like it? While we can all agree that Pickens a bigger, more talented receiver who likely would have garnered more targets/receptions than Austin has, you don't know how many more, or whether or not it'd be enough to keep him from brooding on the sidelines. Especially after an offensive stinker like they just had in LA.

To me, it appears they were intent on running this scheme given their offseason moves. I don't think Pickens would've been happy playing within it - not only would there not be enough opportunities to begin with, but throw in the occasional off game for Rodgers, et al., and he'd really be sulking. Not mention this is his contract year.

Whether I like it or not is irrelevant. To claim that is my reasoning is somewhat disrespectful, which is ironic.

Your argument is based on dubious assumptions. We don't know how Pickens would have reacted to playing with Rodgers, who would be better able to take advantage of his talents than the quarterbacks the last few seasons. Maybe that changes his attitude for the better, which seems to be what is happening in Dallas.

What makes you think they would have had that sort of stinker if they had two stud wide receivers? The Chargers doubled Metcalf all over the field, so Rodgers often had nowhere to go with the ball. They couldn't do that with Pickens out there, too.

I don't doubt that this scheme was the plan, but we are seeing why it is a bad plan. The offense is too limited. It is too easy to defend. That is a product of having only one good receiver.

Major spine surgery is never a good thing when playing NFL football. We shall see.

Samuels is one of the possibilities I talked about a while back.
He's only 26 so age-wise, he could fit a long term spot.

He had that neck injury which they weren't sure when he would be back, so they moved on.
Before the injury, Samuels was a damn good defender.
He is very good in press coverage AND zone.

He was the 14th ranked Free Agent.

So, if he returns 100%, he's an upgrade over Slay and Tice (both Injured)
I still think Echols plays Nickle.... but maybe not.

In retrospect of the insane inactivity to get help during the fire sales, this is actually an appealing move - provided he is 100%

Take a chance on a chance. Can't see him playing this season but you never know.

Hope its a risk reward. If not no harm no foul. Kid can play!

That's where we take it watching the playoff shelling's...

I mean, he's a lot better than what we've had on the field for portions of the season so far. He's had 6 picks in and 37 passes defended in his 47 starts. We're not getting Sauce Gardner, but if he is fully healed from his surgery and gets back to the level of player he was before it, he should be an excellent pick up for us. Seems pretty low risk, high reward. Only time will tell.
