The No trade clause in Tomlin's contract makes this all moot without Tomlin agreeing to it.

Rooneys pay up to the salary cap every year and Tomlin is the 4th highest paid coach in the NFL. How is that cheap?

The Steelers have spent the least money on players over the last five years(link below) and have had a very small coaching staff for quite some time.

    https://thesteelersfans.com/forums/threads/rooney-is-cheap.35189/

They refused to fire Canada after 2022(even though we knew he was terrible) because he had a year left on his contract...same thing for the o-line coach after 2024, and it's killing the team

Once he's out of his comfort zone, Tomlin will not be able to keep a team at .500. In New York, Tomlin would last a max of three years before his incompetence would get him fired. You read it here first.

Pittsburgh media are a bunch of Tibetan monks compared to New York City media. Tomlin wouldn't last 2 years in that market.

Voted no. Only because there wasn't a "Hell no" or "The chances of this happening are approximately 0%".

Won't get fired. Rooney won't pay him $32MM to no coach for us for the next two years (~ $40MM if he was fired now).

Won't just leave / retire. Why would he willingly walk away from $32MM guaranteed money? For a job that he still seems to really enjoy. I think the only way this happens would be if some network offered him more money to be a commentator or something. I don't think they pay that much. Maybe someone would take a pay-cut to some other ridiculous sum of money to go from the high pressure world of the NFL to a 1 day a week job on a network though.

Rooney (probably): "Also, why don't people realize that if I fired him, I'd still have to pay him $40MM over the next 2.5 years. That would be really stupid even if I had that kind of money to light on fire. And I don't."

The no-trade clause is the least important part of this equation to begin with. The Rooney's just aren't going to seek a trade like that w/out talking to Tomlin first. And that talk would be the end of Tomlin's tenure here and would lead to saltiness in the future. That's just not good for anyone.

The most likely timeline for a Tomlin trade would look like this:

1: Giants search committe contacts Tomlin's agent to seek interest

2: Tomlin tells his agent he's interested

3: Committee tells Giants that Tomlin is interested

4: Giants ask permission to speak to Tomlin

    5: Tomlin interviews

6: Tomlin agrees to become the Giants HC

7: Mara's and Rooney's discuss trade details & finalizes the trade

    .........

I highly doubt any of this comes to fruition. But, I think the possibility of this is higher than the Bears and Commanders trade rumors of past years.

I just don't see the Rooney's nuking a 19 year relationship even if that clause wasn't in the contract. It would feel weird when they have reunions for the 09/10 team and him not being there.

    Voted no.

    I want him gone.
I wanted him gone 10 years ago.

He'll more likely be extended two years early than mercifully fired or traded.

We'll continue to be mediocre, a laughingstock of a team come January, if we back into the playoffs as last WC.

I feel like a couple of 3 or 4 win seasons are near, Tomlin is awful as is his assistant coaches. They're being propped up by some proud veterans, but it's about to implode in a dumpster fire fashion. Rooney is probably frozen with indecision, wanting to try and make a change, but fearing severe blow-back for firing or trading Tomlin. Rooney should fake some family emergency and pass over temp control to a minority owner so they can do what needs done...their VERY first day on the job.
