I know it's really hard to find time to track down game tape and sit and watch it, and as a result we forge opinions based on other people's opinions or a couple of highlight reels. I thought compiling real game film here might make it easier for people, as well as give us a thread to discuss each player. Hopefully by looking at these instead of highlight reels, we can get a more accurate picture of what these guys bring to the table. I love highlight reels, but only when I want to get pumped about a player, not when I want to really learn.

I hope you find the time to watch some and let us know what you think!

    My thoughts:

Everyone's been comparing this guy to Bob Sanders, so... I will too. The #21 just makes it too easy. Short, stout, fast, reckless. Glaring weakness is that he doesn't break down his steps before tackling, so it's kind of an all-or-nothing deal. The whiff against Robert Woods on the reverse was especially bad, because Woods had half the field to make a move and Thomas still just sprinted right at him, like Woods didn't know how to change directions. But that all seems correctable to me.

Looks to be more than capable in coverage and overall pretty versatile. Plays some CB effectively and should be a monster on special teams.

Between J. Jones, Bell, Hawthorne, and Thomas, our team just got a lot more physical, that's for sure.

No problem. I'll try to do however many more tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get to do some UFDAs, too.

My thing after watching his highlight reel was just that he's sort of a fly by the seat of his pants type guy that wants to knock the crap out of people. Hopefully he can become a little more disciplined but I'm excited for him for sure.

Wow, thanks for the reality check.
I gotta say, I am a whole lot less impressed with this guy after watching some film of him, than I was by listening to our front office rave about him.
I can see the comparisons to Troy, in that they move him all over the field, let him play up front a lot, and he tends to throw his body around(although, I also saw him try to wrap up the ball carrier a few times).,
But I also saw him get burnt, a lot, and was expecting to see him around the ball more, on a play by play basis.
Again, it`s a small sample size, but more than I had seen of him before the draft, so I very much appreciate this.
Maybe I was just a little over-hyped, and had higher expectations, based on what I had heard about him.
He certainly did make a few big plays in those games, but overall, I was expecting more.
Also, if he has concussion issues, that`s a big deal now, unfortunately.
I will trust the team on this one, and maybe if Carnell Lake, can convince him to stop trying to be like Troy(human torpedo), and focus more, on wrapping up the ball carrier, his speed, and hard hitting instincts will do us some good down the road.
Basically, I thought he was being considered as Troy or Clark`s replacement, and from what I saw in those couple games, he has a long way to go.
Of course, ANY college player has a long way to go, to compare to either of our current safeties...
    GO STEELERS!
Edit... I saw the "face plant" before, and shrugged it off... Whatever, He was trying his hardest, so what?
But, Didn`t I read that he has some kind of leg injury now, that he thought started from that fall?

He definitely is good clay to mold. 5'9" and 213 lbs, with 4.4 speed or better. He is solid, fast, and willing to sacrifice his body.

Here I go, again. I kind of like this kid. He is fast and IF he can be coached he might be pretty decent. I love watching how physical he is and that might be blocking my vision of him.

It's not a highlight reel Bleed :lolol: Don't know what you were expecting, I though he looked pretty good. I think Snack is right though, it's an all or nothing deal with his tackling but that is definitely something Lake can take care of.

he's got work to do as do most rookies. he's a legit 4.3 guy and sometimes his speed makes him take bad angles. i'll stnd by my initial thoughts on him. he's better around the line right now and his pass coverage will need some work. he's better in man then in zone right now.

golden and thomas are not going to be troy and clark , so we are a little spoiled here.

I have confidence our coaching staff will reel him in and teach him to play with more discipline. The tools are there. He just needs to perfect our scheme.

I haven't been able to post much this week due to some chaos here at home, but I want to tip my hat to Snack. These 'watch some tape' threads are great.

If you have the time, and have a means to use it, I recommend http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index for watching college film. Enter the player's team in the search box, and you can watch replays of some full games. I probably wore it out back in February and March. Some teams don't have many (or any) offerings because it's June, but I'm sure there are still some games that can be watched (Syracuse, Michigan, etc).

My observations about Thomas are similar to what's been said already, but I'll throw in my .02. He's aggressive. He'll come in the box and hit like a sledgehammer. He's on the shorter side, but he's strong and fast. He's got good coverage skills and plays sideline to sideline in passing situations.

There were times when he was stiff in the hips after backpedaling, but that can be worked on in the pros. He reminds me of Troy a little in that he will go for the highlight reel tackle as opposed to taking the safer angle for the "sure hit", and he has little regard for his body when making those explosive tackles.

TTF...thanks for posting. I thought you might be forgetting about us and was starting to feel a little neglected. I was wondering why you never talk to us anymore, tell us that we look beautiful, notice that we have done something different with our hair or just ask us how are day was. We aren't asking for much, here, just a little attention...we need to feel special, too!

It's not you Jim, it's me. It's just that I'm tired at the end of the day, and I just want to put my feet up and read a good book. I'll tell you what, go get your nails done and go get your nice necklace back that your sister borrowed, because I'm taking you out dancing this Friday night...just like the good old days baby!

LMAO at Towel`s reply to Jim!!!! Or should I put an @ somebody, in there?...
Not sure how all that "hashtag" stuff works,
But, I hope the personal "chaos" settles down for ya soon, Towel...
One of my best friends asks me how it`s going, when he sees me, and the standard reply is...
    "You know... C.M.I...."....
The initials stand for Chaos, Madness, and Insanity"...
Because that is just how our lives usually are, Kinda like S.S.D.D.,
Stands for "Same **** Different Day", to a lot of people...
Hope whatever chaos you aren`t used to, clears itself up soon!
Thanx again, for hosting this place. You Rock!!!:applaud:

Just back after an absence myself. 1st thread I read and now this one have me scratching my head.

Shamarko is exactly as billed. Fast, aggressive, explosive but undisciplined and undersized. That's why WE got him.

Looks promising to me and keep posting these in the off season. Brilliant. THnx

Ha, thanks Bleed. I hear the C.M.I. loud and clear. Thanks for the well wishes, but no worries, it's all good. Just busy with a super fussy baby and other high speed life stuff.
