i still have some doubts about the left side , foster is serviceable but to me doesn't look an exctiting left guard and gilbert is a big question mark , maybe will work but i'm not convinced , the other 3 should be great

we will see but i don't think this line is a done deal yet. maybe for this year, but we will see. it doesn't change the fact foster still can't pull and block on the move very well. gilbert? we will see how well he handles this side. can the young guys overtake either of them once pads are put on?

Foster is in great shape now and I believe his main focus was learning to pull this off season. Every time you doubt this man he proves you wrong and I would take him on my line any day.

he just doesn't have the feet for it. foster is a try hard guy. the year before last we were not sure who would be the guard. remember hills, legursky, and a couple of draft picks. foster kind of won by default. i'm not saying for the last 3 years foster hasn't been pretty solid coming off the bench to start portions of the seasons but if he's just now learning to pull? c'mon man. foster was a decent road grader at RG. his problem has always been the mobility part. as they get more mobile, this will come to light more. if he loses the 25 lbs. he put on his gut following the max starks, willie colon, chris kemoeatu training regiment he was on, he could possibly be more mobile. he has said that himself this year. about the weight that is, i just kinda paraphased the rest. LOL.

i like foster but at right not sure on the left . anyway we are getting younger and they will improve under a new scheme , maybe we can even find someone that surprise between the undrafted . we will see during the preseason if we need another piece

Exactly he was a rg and in the old steeler offense and most offenses the rg rarely if ever pulls.

It really is typically your rg is a road grader since most teams prefer to run to the right and the LG is more agile to help in pass protection. Since most running plays go right the LG is going to pull. Really rg pull on tosses to the right. I played o and d line for 12 years and coached it for 8 now.

that still doesn't mean they rarely if ever pull as you said. your article states DD pulled from RG quite a bit. they don't pull foster because he's not good at it. they didn't run to the outside because our linemen couldn't get out there since faneca.

i'll bet you will see an older style of line work hopefully in this new scheme. even at LG foster may not have to pull to much. pouncey and DD will do most of it. similar to how we used dawson i hope. the steelers for years were the best screen running team in the league. i'd like to see more of that. let the mobile guys do the mobile work.

Of all kemo faults pulling was not one of them. Remember with him in their the Steelers were number 2 in the league when going right and a lot of those had him pulling. If foster has improved on his pulling having three interior linemen be able to pull is huge. If he said that is what he worked on most then I would suspect he will be decent at it this year.

As others have said, not 2 rookies anymore for starters.

I had hope for the potential of our line last year. Not confidence. Big difference. Then DeCastro gets hurt, the line shuffles, our offense starts misfiring, and it all spiraled out of control (to the point that I'm convinced half the team if not more phoned most of the season in).

I'm not saying we have a "great" line. But after all the bad lines we've had, I'll settle for "competent." They'll be that at least (barring injuries of course)
