I would have like some of these players, but IMO when You trade away picks for a Guy you want, 1st to know, will You be able to keep them, and two.....what is the chances I can draft a guy like him with those same picks. For example: S. Gardner.....I would have liked to add him, but do I think that I couldn't draft someone as good if I spent two 1st round draft picks on trying, not counting his salary, and the other player I gave up for him. So I don't actually think he's worth that. Because I believe if You let me draft two 1st round CBs , I could get one as good, and for way cheaper. JMO.

Yep. The main driver is the APY of the the contract their new team gave them. You then add points for snap % and postseason honor/awards - but from the last season with the team they were signed away from, i.e., their 2024 season here.

I'm not trying to state differently. But depending on what other priorities the club has - they've been doing the foot in each boat approach to competing and re-tooling for years - they dealt a certain hand to Smith in terms of personnel. The variation of the system he's running this year is old school compared to most in today's. Considering the pieces I think he's done well with it, but I have doubts on it's long-term efficacy.

He is a nice player. Would be a good signing if he can still play.

I'd be all over that if he really is healthy - Samuel underwent spinal fusion surgery in April to address a neck/shoulder injury that limited him to just four games in the 2024 season. He received clearance for football activities in early November 2025.

Imagine being a Jets fan. Management stripping the team bare at the trade deadline and gambling on draft picks. They have NOTHING.

Count your blessings being a Steeler fan.

Glad we did not spend draft picks for a Wide receiver. There is a player on another teams practice squad that we should sign to 53 man roster. His name is GABE DAVIS! Just came off Bills practice squad injury list. Started practicing last week. He may still be a couple of weeks from playing but cost would be low and no draft picks wasted.

    we have WR's.....

Wilson and Miller - this is on SMITH for not working those guys in the game.

If RW sucks, then that is a HUGE DRAFT BUST. a 2nd rounder that can't make plays by mid-season Yr 2 is on his way to BUST status.

    this is on Smith, IMO.........

    WORK HIM IN!

Apparently, we're the last team on his schedule.

Seems to me like these guys will often take contracts right after meetings.

So my guess is that he signs with someone else before his scheduled visit with the Steelers.

2 1sts plus another player for Gardner? No way. A 1st+ for waddle? Again, no way.

Competitive window is really important too.

Organizational philosophy too. And I just don't think the Steelers would ever make that trade because of organizational philosophy. But even if that weren't true, I don't think it would have made sense for us.

But for the Colts it makes sense this year IMO.

They find themselves in a surprisingly strong position in a year where the AFC looks weaker than it has recently. It's reasonably likely that two of the elite 4 QBs in the conference (Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, Burrow) will miss the playoffs. One at least in Burrow.

If they don't miss, one or two of them might end up being WC teams. So having a bye to avoid the WC round might be even more important than usual. And Indy has a real shot at getting the bye in the AFC. Which is a huge benefit.

That and the Colts biggest strength is probably Taylor. And RBs just aren't long for the league and he's already in year 6. And they also think they may have their QB of the future (or at least the medium term).

It's kind of now or never for them IMO.

If we would have won against Cincy and / or GB, I think we might be in a similar situation. But even still, I don't think we'd trade away that much of the future with a QB that's year to year (at best). And you just don't sell the future for a CB when you don't have a plan at QB.

What does that have to do with Wilson? He was a third-round pick.

We don't really Miller isn't really good and Wilson still has to prove that he belongs in the NFL. I have a feeling that if the team thought he was a good player, he'd be at least on the field getting reps.

Wilson was a 3rd round pick, but yeah. Its still not good that he isn't a good enough player to see more snaps/opportunities on a team that has 1.5 viable WR's.

It's not on Smith. He can only work with what he's given, and he is given a team that has exactly 2 WR's worth putting on the field and running a route. He doesn't HAVE to force Wilson out there just because he was a third round draft pick. I hope that we pay this position the attention it needs during the next offseason.
