I don't think there's a single team in the AFC that is a lock to make the playoffs right now. The Colts are the most "locked" due to the fact that their division is pretty hot garbage.... The Pats have a really easy schedule and are pretty likely to at least be a WC team if they can't hold off the Bills. The way I see it there are 9 teams vying for the 7 spots.

Pats, Bills, Steelers, Ravens, Colts, Jags, Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs.... which two are likely to miss?

That is the same 9 I picked at the halfway mark. Two of those nine will be in AFCCG. And two to miss, Jags/???????

That would be my guess and hope (other than a Ravens miss of course).

I definitely think those two teams are the "worst" teams of that list... but lots of football to play.

Turnovers are awesome when your team can also get off the field when they dont get one. Steelers arent showing they are capable of winning ball games without getting a bunch of splash plays.

Ideally you want a defense that can stop people on downs without relying on a turnover. Thats when you have a good defense, when you can do that regularly and then turnovers just put you over the top as a dominant defense.

That's why this game Sunday night against LA is very important. Beat the Chargers and we have the tie breaker over them.

And yet we are 5-3, one game outside of the best records, and have beaten the two teams in the AFC with the best records, and were a tipped pass by our own guy, and a rookie mistake from beating one of the best records in the NFC.

    This.
This would give us the tie breaker over the Colts, Pats, and Chargers.

Agreed the Colts had a lot of those yards with the Steelers prevent late. The Patriots game was much different. They moved the ball at will all game long but kept fumbling.

Both of those teams have benefited from a relatively easy schedule to get those records. It's a lot like the Vikings of last year. I personally do not rank either of those teams in the top five for sure. They are good teams, but I see them as a tier 2 team rather than a tier one. Just offer the top of my head, I think that the broncos, buccaneers, eagles, Chiefs, and the Ravens (now that Lamar is back) are all better teams for sure.

Steelers will beat the Bills and Lions, but lose to the Dolphins and Browns.... so we'll have to stack as many wins as possible. Hopefully it will be enough.

I may be completely off base here, but isn't there a chance that the Steelers could improve over another half season of football? Feel like many are assuming the Steelers are going to stay the same or get worse while other teams are going to get better. I'm aware of recent history, but feel like AR mitigates some of this. Feel like all of the top teams are flawed.

I'm excited to see how this realigned secondary does this week. Also feel like the OL is improving weekly.

They have some tough games starting with Sunday down the stretch. I think most are pessimistic based on the ending of the last several years but to your point different QB.

0% chance we beat both the Bills and Lions. Those are terrible matchups for us.

Agree... but it wouldn't surprise me if Steelers somehow beat the good teams remaining and then laid eggs against the bottom feeders. It's been happening since 2014.

The Lions are a bad matchup because they are incredibly well coached. I think we can move the ball on their defense, but they have a lot of offensive playmakers and can beat you with their WR's, TE's or running the ball. They wont be turning it over 5 times, so we have to get a TO or two when we can and cash in.

I think that Buffalo is a fine enough matchup. They're just the Josh Allen and James Cook show offensively. We can match up with their other playmakers, but the element of a QB that can run and throw has been an achilles heel for this team for a bit now. The only mobile QB that can win with his legs that we've played so far was Fields and he torched us. Drake Maye was the leading rusher for the Pats in our game vs them (though some of that had to do with their RB's not being able to hold onto the ball). So maybe that is the bad matchup? Being poor against dual threat QB's (even if passing is his major threat).
