If he DOESN'T make it back this year does the team keep him around? I ask this because ultimately it's a financial thing. Can we afford to pay him if he's not getting on the field or even physically able to perform? It would be a horrible decision to have to make and I'm glad I'm not that one that will ultimately decide but what will happen if he can't make it back by this year?

From what they have said they are giving him as much time as he needs. In the end if he can't play next season it will probably end in an injury settlement

They've said they will give him through 2014. After that, don't know but I think he will be back by then.

    I love his attitude.
That is probably one of the biggest things that determines whether a player can recover, or not.
If he thinks it "might" be possible, or he is "hoping" he can do it, then forget it...
Having that self-confidence, and being that determined, goes a long way, towards making it happen, if it is physically possible!
Sure would like to see him overcome the odds, but, realistically they are long odds...
Then again, it was pretty long odds, that Rocky Blier(never can spell that name right), could return from war wounds, and become a valuable rb for the Black n Gold!:flag:
    GO SPENCE! ROCK ON!!!!

Oh wow I didn't know they done that kind of thing. Do they have a cap on it or is it just a case by case basis? I honestly thought if you got hurt on a football field and lost your spot on the team that you were basically thrown to the wolves.

I think it has something to do with how much is left on the contract and I think once that is reached his salary is off the books.

No way he plays this year...he won't be practicing in camp..and no way the put a guy who has not taken a snap to the reserve possible to return list.....he will be on IR at the start of the season....if he is ready or not...they will force him to take the extra year.

And I'd be okay with that. Probably the smart thing to do. Only way I keep a spot for him is if he really, really looks good to go 100% at the beginning of the season. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the serious part of his injury is the nerve damage, so they don't have to be overly concerned about him re-injuring it, they just have to see if he can even play.

I'm getting older so my memory is not what it was but I thought Butler said they were gonna keep the kid another year, which would be thru 2013 and then see where he's at.

Agree with Hack, no-way he plays this year.

Trying to find it but no luck, the only articles I have found have said through 2013 so maybe I misunderstood that one. I think he will recover though, even if not ready to take the field by seasons end, I think he will definitely be ready for 2014. Here's an article I did find while looking for the other one, a LB for Pitt University suffered the same injury and came back. Unfortunately for him though he then suffered a lacerated liver that ended his season, talk about crappy luck.

are there any limits to the number of players you can put on pup list at the beginning of the season?

didn't willis mcgahee have the same thing? in the national championship game against Ohio State.

as snack said it is the nerve that's the problem. he could come back at some point this year with other parts of the injury. i don't think there is a real timeline on the nerve to comeback or not comeback. i am no expert on the subject though.

Oh man I remember when he got his knee blown out and man that looked like one of the most painful things I've ever seen. I honestly think he would have had a much better career if not for that injury. I felt really sorry for him that night.
