Mike, I'd like to reintroduce you to #25. Steeler Nation is already chipping in to cover the fine.

Usually you hear about guys coming to Pittsburgh and saying, "Wow, they get it here, they want to win, not like that crappy place I was at before." Never heard it the opposite way before, and the first time I do, it's Mike Wallace??

Yeah, if only the whole team was as hungry to win as Mike Wallace was... we'd have had much better draft position. This is like if Mark Sanchez came to our team and said, "I like it here. Did you see the Jets last year? Their quarterback was terrible."

Yep. The problem with Wallace's statement is that it raises two issues, which I can more or less guarantee won't be.

First: Wallace running his mouth. Strange comments about the lease on his home(you could have bought a house in Pittsburgh if you wanted to, Mike - not sure the team was demanding you lived in a furnished apartment...). Generally idiotic statements.

Second: that the team wasn't hungry last year. Let's forget Wallace said it, for a moment: can we honestly say that surprises anyone? It was mentioned enough last season on here that the team didn't seem to have a 'fire' when they were playing. And that cuts, as a fan, because as Snack says, you don't expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to be lacking in fire.

Meh, I'm presuming whatever was keeping them from being hungry has been dealt with. Judging from the noise from OTAs, it seems that way.

I guarantee that we will game plan for him, not like we don't know his moves. Let him talk, he will run thru the money quick in South Beach and will want to restructure and turn into a pain in the a$$ for the fin's.

    A) the guy is illiterate. I don't even know what the hell this means:
In Pittsburgh, I knew I was [in] a six-month lease every time, a furnished apartment,” Wallace said last week. “I’d just bring my bag and be ready to go. Down here, I have to buy me a house, get settled in.”

    B) The guys isn't the brightest bulb (kinda related to A). If the Steelers weren't hungry last year and he was part of that team, what does that say about his own desire? And his play on the field certainly reflected it too.

    C) Who really cares what a stupid illiterate thinks anyway?

    D) Where is SteelerGlenn? Wallace is a Dolphin now.
    :lolol:

I may be going out on a limb here but I think the author of the article has a chip on his shoulder. I didn't see anything in there that was a veiled jab at the Steelers. The college mentality statement was strange because it could be taken as hey party it up kind of thing but the getting back to winning football games doesn't really work with that angle. You have to admit though that he is correct and after year and years of losing they are trying to change the fortunes of the franchise and get back to respectability. Contrast that with the Steelers who have a rich tradition of winning and working hard as the norm it would be different going to a team that doesn't have that kind of work ethic or history.

As far as the buying a house thing that is Wallaces' own fault if he didn't want to establish some real roots in PA like a lot of his teammates and was a seasonal resident preferring to leave after the season and come back for camp/regular season. I think it shows that he never was thinking of being a Steeler long term because he would have settled in if he had plans of that sort instead of remaining untethered to the community.

Either way it just sounds to me like someone who is still ticked that Wallace didn't take the offer last season, held out and gave a poor effort this season and ultimately left for money. I realize that team news has been slow but this is making a small hill out of a mole hill. Not a mountain yet but I can see them(the media) focusing on every little word Wallace says now and making this into a bigger and bigger story. Still won't be relevant but it will be bigger.

Wallace sounds to me like a boyfriend who got dumped by a girl that he really loved but now to save face he's going around trashing her name all over town. His skills in dealing with rejection are as good as his skills at route running.

:this!: Funny thing is now he HAS to produce big numbers or he will be labeled a Bust. With an ego like his that would be a hard pill for him to swallow.

Its starting to look more and more like our team's attitude problems last year stemmed largely from one source. Now that it is gone, we can get back to business

Haha. I'm taking this out of context but he said , "Everybody around here [Miami] has a college mentality". My mentality in college was Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll.

I had to read this twice because my first reaction was much like the rest of you. Upon reading it again, I'm not so sure Wallace meant any ill will.

"Everybody has a college mentality around here, it's a lot different than where I came from. Everybody is hungry. Everybody wants to get better, get to where we need to be - that's a winning record."

I think this just means they have a very green team, a very young team. Whereas Pittsburgh has a winning tradition, a veteran team. Miami is naturally going to be hungrier then players who have been around longer and some of which already have SB rings and who many have already reached their ceiling. And he's saying that they need to be hungry and reach their full potential in order to get to a winning record. Lets face it, we know that we were not hungry last year, came out flat many games.

"In Pittsburgh, I knew I was in a six-month lease every time, a furnished apartment, I'd just bring my bag and be ready to go. Down here, I have to buy a house, get settled in."

This one is pretty much indefensible, pretty hard to take it any other way then it sounds, he didn't want to be here, ever. Because other wise, I don't know why he couldn't buy a house in Pittsburgh, I'm sure some are for sale.

Anyway, I've said all along that Wallace was the root of the problems last year, nothing has happened to sway me from that belief.

I agree but I'm afraid that there's still another part of the problem left on the team. I think E. Sanders if next to head down the "young money crew" path. Never did care for them calling themselves that.

This was pretty much the way I read it. The 6 month lease thing was just odd - the way the article has written it, it's almost like Wallace is saying the Steelers put him in that situation. But as a statement, it makes no sense presented in that context. Which suggests the author of the article is picking out bits and framing them to sound like Wallace is stirring up ****.

Which brings me back to my point before. We can all poke fun at his "college mentality" statement, and talk about our proud winning tradition. But the fact is, we went 8-8 last year, and the winning mentality was not always in evidence. Hell, if it takes Mike Wallace to fire our team up again, all the better.

Except he hasn't threatened to hold out and hasn't talked "swaggy " in the press. He has also said he will be at all offseason activities, including the voluntary ones. That being said, I think he will be gone next year and Wheaton will step up to #2. IIf he is staying, we will extend him before this season starts.

    My thoughts exactly.
He held out and cried about money and he was a locker room cancer. I am glad he is gone. The Dolphins have no idea what kinda selfish diva they just overpaid. He is their problem now.

Shouldn't this be in the Other Teams talk section? The last I checked he is no longer a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Kind of love the way he contradicts himself talking about the lack of fire here in one breath, and in the next breath admitting to having short timer's disease..
